Dear Madelinewade, welcome to our extraordinary family and I am so very sorry to hear about your F.I.L. Has the Doctor called in Hospice yet? They can be called up to a year ahead of time and they really take over the care and needs of the patient. It is very important to start pain control when the pain begins. Hospice also has a booklet that explains what to expect and it is writeen very well. My husband followed
what they wrote (for symptoms) almost to the T. WHile everyone is different it is a really helpful book. I wish you the best and I wish for your F.I.L. to remain very comfortable.

My wonderful father in law was diagnosed with cc in Feb 2012. In December 2011 he was not well. He had knee surgery seemed to be ok then had a chest infection and the dr. saw abnormal liver function from a test being ran. January 2012 he began to get worse and was admitted. A ct scan was done where a mass was found on the liver. At first it was thought that antibiotics could reduce the size and that would show that it was just an abscess. A biopsy was performed and that is when cancer was discovered. He was transferred to another hospital where there were tests and more tests to only discover that he had CC with mets to bone, stomach and lymph nodes. No treatment has been given as the Dr. said it would not do any good. He has been in a out of the hospital every 2 weeks or so where his hemoglobin levels have gotten really low and they have had to give him blood. Last week he had confusion and was taken into hospital where they did a brain scan. We haven’t had the results back but it seems that for the last several days he has not had any confusion and seems to be ok. There is slight pain in his tummy now but nothing major. He is tried these days and has a hard time walking. He has a walker and wheelchair. So painful to watch a vibrant person going down hill. I found this site hoping to understand what to expect coming in the future. They had given him 12 months in Jan and then in Feb changed it to months./ Last week was updated again to 2 months left.

    So sad
