Lainy,
My thoughts and prayers go out to you often. You both really do so much
for those of us battling this cancer. It is true. Your wit and humor, even in times of much stress to both of you, always comes through to lighten things up. You say it’s contagious from Teddy, then it’s twice as contagious from you Lainy, to others.Stay strong and I can see you are enjoying every bit of the time you have with each other. Your love will certainly continue on.
When I was on Oxycodone, it caused constipation too. I was given a prescription of Colace too which really helped. But I also found than Miralax worked just as well and was non-prescription. The chemo. nurses recommended the Miralax (when the chemo. was causing the same problem).
Best of everything to you with the upcoming movie afternoon. Hope that the dinner went well also.
Linda

I am so glad things are working out for you and Teddy and that your are both comfortable with hospice. The attitude you both have makes a big difference. I think about you both often and am hoping for the best for you both.
Love & Hugs,
DarlaAugust 16, 2010 at 3:23 pm #40745lainySpectatorYou are too kind. Think of it this way. Would you rather see your dad depressed and complaining or at Peace and happy that you are around him? Honestly Teddy’s attitude is the only reason I believe that I have my attitude. It’s contageous. I also feel that for what ever time we have left I want it spent happily not in a mourning way. You are very special, I can tell from your postings. Stay Happy and Strong around your dad and you will never regret it.

The positive attitude you and Teddy show have helped me so much during the last 6 months. Dad is much the same, saying he knows where he will be going and is at peace with what is to come, but I truly hated that he seemed so okay with what he was going through until I read all your posts and realized how much that positive attitude helps him and everyone around him.
Thank you both so much for the help you give so many…. I’m not sure either of you realize how much you do for other people battling this cancer.
You are both in my thoughts and prayers today and every day.

I haven’t been on the boards for a while, so have only just seen that things have moved on a notch for you and Teddy. I can see that you still have your sense of humour, although things must be tough for you.
When Alan decided to stop all active treatment, he too said that he felt he had been very lucky in his life and that although he knew he would never be ‘cured’ he felt he had reached a place where he was ‘healed’.
With love and ‘healing’ thoughts for you both …

August 14, 2010 at 11:16 am #40742katieloumattMemberHi Lainy and Teddy,
I’m so glad intoductions have been made with the hospice early on.
I work as a nurse in a children’s hospice and truly believe the relationships we make with the child and family before they ‘need us’ as their disease or condition progresses are invaluable.
With the regular Monday visits from the hospice nurses you will both hopefully build up trusting, supportive links.
Sending you positive thoughts,
Katie

You and Teddy have such positive attitudes. You make me smile so often.
I know for us, the idea of calling hospice was much scarier than actually doing it. Just knowing that they were there IF we needed them was such a relief. Mom had lots of trouble with constipation, and Miralax did the job. Just an fyi if you need a back up plan.
I have been thinking about you both a lot…..

August 13, 2010 at 4:51 pm #40740andieSpectatorOh Lainy, you do make me laugh, Teddy the penguin!! I love penguins and could watch them for hours at the zoo. Next year we are going to Orlando and we are so looking forward to visiting Seaworld (and the penguins). Now everytime I see one I will be thinking of you and Teddy.
So glad everything is working out fine with the hospice nurses, and hope Teddy has some relief from his ‘constipation’. My Dad suffered from this after having his IV antibiotics, in the end he had to have natural remedies as the medication he was given made him worse. He has an illestomy bag, so has to be careful what he takes.
I hope Teddy enjoys his movie next week, what is he going to see?. My Mom and Dad are going to see The Sound of Music, musical tomorrow, something I didn’t think they would be doing back in March. They are both looking forward to getting out as Dad hasn’t been out much the last few weeks. Next week hopefully we are going to the RAF Museum, something my 9 year old son is looking forward to doing with his Grandad. More happy memories to make and share.
Wishing you and Teddy all the best.

August 13, 2010 at 2:09 pm #40739lainySpectatorThank you our friends. As usual we did this just fine. So far the pain RX is working well and they said the next one would be a low dose of Morphine. T biggest problem is “constipation” from the Oxycodene. He is taking Senna and Colace. Then I found one-DOK+ that is a combo of both. He does get very tired but his mind still wants to go and do. I just let him talk about it. One of our friends wants to take him to a movie next week during the day which is great.
Tonight meeting friends for dinner but we make sure we go by 530PM spend about 2 hours and come home. He keeps telling everyone how lucky he is. I sure wish you all could meet him. He is so very special. HE is my little penguin, you know. That’s because he is short and walks like one!August 13, 2010 at 2:02 pm #40738hollandgMemberLainy
We recognise that this was such a big step for you and Teddy and as always you have taken it with courage and bravery. You are in our thoughts as always……………………………Gerry
August 13, 2010 at 2:24 am #40737mlepp0416SpectatorLainy and Teddy:
I’m certain that now that the choice for Hospice has been made that they will be an immense help to both of you, both physically and spiritually.
Teddy: Thank you for all the inspiration you have given to so many of our CC patients and their caregivers. You have given Tom hope. Thank you for lighting candles at mass for Tom and so many others. You have a very big, kind heart and it does not go un-noticed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during your journey.
Hugs to you both!

August 12, 2010 at 7:45 pm #3891lainySpectatorYesterday we registered with one Nurse and today Teddy’s Nurse paid a visit. She actually lives in our comminuty. His blood pressure is perfect, no swelling in the legs, lungs and heart good. So, what are we doing here? I know, making new friends. Dawn will visit every Monday for now. Both nurses were extremely nice and even knew about CC. They also both new our ONC and said he is the absolute best as very few docs follow after Hospice takes over but he insists on reports and makes calls to them. Visit yesterday took 3 hours! Teddy couldn’t concentrate that long so he turned on the Little League Finals and when the nurse asked him a question he was like the kid caught not paying attention in class. Too funny. Tomorrow the Urologist and I have a feeling he may pull the stent instead of replacing it, we shall see. I am sure he will call the ONC first. I never knew that Hospice even orders his RX now. I feel a little sense of relief now that we are aboard. Stay tuned.
