Thanks for you support but I was surprised the MRI show 9 secondary lesions on the liver situated in segment VI,VII,IV measuring 6mm to 25 mm these lesions are little hyper intense t2 but my ca19-9 is 12 and all liver functions are good so the problem is that the blood analyse and the MRI is contradicting could it be a reoccurrence without any ca19-9 level elevated and normal liver functions, please someone help me throug this until I meet my onc

Mark….The main use of CA19-9 ( a blood type protein) for cholangiocarcinoma patients is to observe the trend of the fluctuation – upward may indicate a recurrence – downward may indicate a positive response to treatment. Therefore you will see that emphasize given to the total count at the beginning of chemotherapy and throughout the treatment.

Some people don’t produce the Lewis antigen and do not express the CA 19-9. (About 10% of the Caucasian population)

Your numbers look great. It would be surprising for you not to receive a great MRI report. I hope this helped reduce your anxiety a bit.

    Hugs,
    Marion

I know it is nerve-racking to wait for scans, but most docs do not like to give results without the full report from the radiologist. So it doesn’t mean bad news at all.
I have never had a high CA19 so I am not sure what the correlation is to bad MRIs.

Good luck to you and I hope your scan results are good and come back soon.

Hi, I received the blood test today,Ca19-9 is 12,bilirubin T is .38 & bilirubin c is .15 gamma gt is 54,all the blood test is looking good ,I received a call saying that the MRI is not ready today ,it will be ready tomorrow so I’m little afraid about the result, six month ago I was clear no reoccurrence hope that this time also will be no recurrence:)) if the ca19-9 is good is it possible to have bad news from the MRI? Please tell me
