We got the news tonight that we had been expecting. The build up of fluid in Gary’s lung is cancer, as well as the biopsy of tissue from the lung lining. We’re still in disbelief over how quickly this has spread, but are OK with the news – that seems odd to say- but our faith is strong, we have been totally open and honest with each other every step of this 2 year journey, and are still enjoying each day together (tomorrow is our 5th anniversary).
We haven’t had a chance to discuss this with our oncologist yet, but they had run out of options for the mets to the liver, so I can’t imagine there’s any treatment for this either. Gary is still in the hospital recovering from the VATS procedure to remove the fluid from his lung. Also his albumin level is 1.7, so he is badly malnourished. We’re trying to build him up with as much protein as possible, but I don’t know enough about that to even know if that’s possible. This cancer may have won one battle, but it will never destroy our faith and positive attitudes!!
