Oh, I know the feeling. I think if I had tried an eency weency bit of Morphine I would have been out for a week! Would be nice if the Care Givers had something to take the edge off now and then. Except I just don’t tolerate ‘stuff’ and who would then take care of me.

Thanks Lainy. If we do get the oxygen I may try some myself!!!!
Now that I think of it there is a bottle of Marinol in the fridge… ( Ha Ha, just kidding, I would never take his perscription drugs except for the occasional xanax.)

Say, P, I just remembered that when Teddy used Oxygen it really relaxed him and even helped with the pain a little. It is not a bad thing and does not always mean a downhill trend. Think of it as a legal substance to get relaxed!!!!

    Hi Joyce,

Thank you for sharing your experience. Dan is doing better now but of course I’m always on edge waiting for it to happen again. I’ll definatlely mention the side effect and also the oxygen to the onc.
    Thanks,
    P

    Hi Peony,
My mother had trouble breathing and part of it was because of the fluid buildup and ascites in her abdomen pressing on her lungs, part of it was the cancer itself – at the time, I researched it, and shortnesss of breath is one of the side effects of this cancer, even without chemo. It was very scary and she was hospitalized with oxygen, but even the doctors didn’t know it was a side effect — they were completely at a loss. It did get better, but she felt more reassured if she always had oxygen nearby, just in case. Best of luck to you!

    Thank you both…
He can breath better now but experiencing side effects from the chemo. He has 3 weeks off from chemo now so we’re hoping to enjoy some time together doing normal things.

    Best,
    P

Peony….if he is feeling a bit better today then tomorrow should be better yet.
That is what I wish for.

Peony, I am so glad to read that your husband is doing better. That had to be the scariest thing to go through. One thing is for sure, CC sure keeps us on our toes! I hope he is feeling much, much better now.

Thank you Marion , good suggestion. He does have unusual reactions to medication. I’ll definately bring it up to the onc .
    He’s a bit better today.

Peony….You might want to ask the doctor about the rare but, possible allergic reaction to Oxyliplatin.
    Is your husband feeling better?
    All my best wishes,
    Marion

Last night I awoke to the sound of my husband gasping for air. He could not take a breath.
Luckily we had an inhaler and Dan was able to take a few puffs to open his airways until EMT arrived about 5 minutes later.
We spent the night in the ER where my husband had 3 breathing treatments.
An MRI ruled out a pulminary embolism – thankfully.
But we still don’t know why this happened.
Anyone else experienced this type of side affect from chem? My husband is taking Avastin, Oxaliplatin and Gemzar.
