Jliu168…… Sounds like a real good combination of monoclonal and chemo. Fantastic Tumor Marker decrease. I’ve been reading a little on the MAB and Chemo delivery regimen and have been seeing positive results. It seems to go straight for the epidermal cancerous cells. Will most likely be the route I take next if things start going south. Wish your Father the continued progress.

    Dear Fellow Members,

After completing three cycles of Erbitux / Gemzar my father’s CA 19-9 has dropped from 1450 to 134. Will follow up with MRI results in due course.

    Best Wishes to all.

My father yesterday met with his oncologist after running fever after his first treatment with GEMZAR. He showed us some reports from ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology), commenting on use of Cetuximab (Eritux) with Gemzar / Oxaliplatin. Response rate was increased with addition of Cetuximab, and we are now going to add it with Gemzar treatment. I hope that this regimen will prove to be useful and will let you know results in due course.

    Thanks Kate,
He is awesome. I just can’t imagine him losing the fight against this terrible disease- he’s worked so hard to be well! Everyone here has too, and they are all an inspiration, including your Mom! We just have to keep hoping and praying that a cure is just around the corner! Best Wishes, Mary

    Hi Annie,
Yes my husband has been taking Maitake Mushroom D Fraction for months now. I don’t know if it has helped as far as his tumor reducing ( it can no longer be seen on scans or MRI) but I do know it has really helped his immune system. He has not gotten a single sniffle this year and everyone around him has been very sick at times! He is also taking fish oil capsules, for the Omega 3 benefits, Milk Thistle for liver regeneration, dried beet supplement, also for liver health and he drinks 16 oz of fresh carrot juice everyday. If it wasn’t for the cancer he is in the best shape he has been in for years. He works out 30 minutes every day incuding weight lifting to increase his lost muscle mass. Try any thing you can- you just don’t know what will work since everyone is so different! Best Wishes, Mary

Hello, my name is Annie from North Carolina. My husband Frank was diagnosed in December 2006. His tumor is over 6 inches in diameter covering the right lobe and part of the left. He had a pump implanted in his left upper abdomen which is connected to an artery in his liver. It is filled with Gemcitabine every two weeks and slowly dispenses all of it over the next two weeks. Then it is filled with normal saline which slowly dispenses over the next two weeks. It is alternated to prevent scarring of the bile ducts. He also has a Power Port implanted in his right front shoulder in which he gets oxciliplatin and one of the 5FU drugs every two weeks. Today was his third treatment. So far the side effects have been very mild. We are also looking at alternitive treatments. Has anyone heard of maitake mushrooms? He is also taking a chemo drug called Tarciva by mouth. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Annie C.

Zoe, All I can tell you is cetuxmab is the same thing as erbitux and was approved for use by the FDA in 2004 for use of colon /rectal cancer and for head and neck cancers usually given in combination with another type of chemo. Many Oncologist will use different types of combination if they feel there is a possibility of it being effective. I’ve tried four different combination so far. Different chemos will go after different targets of cancer cells irregardless of location. This I’ve been told is done regularly. Bristol-Myers Squib is one of the manufactures if you want to get more information. Welcome to the site. How is your Dad doing? Sorry about the delay in a reply but this is a hopping site full of information and certainly worth ongoing reviews of all postings.
    Best Wishes,

Does anyone know anything about Cetuximab being used to treat CC? It was discussed with my dad at his last oncology meeting. It’s been used for bowel cancers but as far as my internet searches have gone i’ve only seen it being used in trials for CC and none of these were in the UK. I think they were talking about using it (if allowed) in conjunction with Gemcitabine.

    Thanks

    Zoe
