I can’t reference where I read it, but I know I did read somewhere at the start of my researching information, that in very rare diseases, studies sometimes ended before they were planned to end, due to not having enough participants for the study…the problem of a rare disease. There aren’t enough people with the disease at any one point in the disease process required for a particular study. However, IMO, I would think that if any of those studies showed any great promise, there would be even the few patients available clamoring to get into the study.

I’m not sure Duke, can’t recall hearing of this too much. Heard of trials closing due it not going as hoped and all that but not for lack of participation. Hopefully others will have some input on this issue.

    Best wishes,

    Gavin

Closing a trial early due to low participation – is this common?

Gemcitabine plus cisplatin versus chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced biliary tract cancer: Fédération Francophone de Cancérologie Digestive 9902 phase II randomised study.

“Combination of gemcitabine plus cisplatin seems to be at least as efficient as chemoradiotherapy (50Gy plus 5 FU and cisplatin) in LABTC.”
