Thank you, Gavin – yes, the Oncs all got through the snow & she’s got the thumbs-up for next Wednesday.
All the best to you & your mum.

December 24, 2009 at 6:51 pm #33777gavinModeratorHi Julia,
Did you manage to get the app with the onc? I see on the news that London has ground to a bit of a halt with the weather. Yes it is pretty bad up here, the worst for about 20 years they say. Up in the Highlands the temp dropped to -16 for the last 2 nights. Even down my way it is not getting above freezing during the day and everything here is very white indeed. Trying to drive anywhere here is a nightmare as it is like an ice rink outside. I am keeping my fingers crossed for your sister with her 4th cycle and I wish you and your sister a merr christmas.
Hi Marion, I can’t imagine you would get much snow in California, or even temps in the minus!
My best wishes to you all.
Gavin
December 23, 2009 at 7:16 pm #33776marionsModeratorSnow? Living in California gave a new meaning to “a white Christmas”. Artificial snow on the tree simply doesn’t make up for it. Enjoy.
Best wishes,
MarionDecember 23, 2009 at 8:33 am #33775lalupesSpectatorI hope you & your mum are doing well, Gavin – thanks for your comments about my sister. She was told her chemo would be put back a week because her Onc appointment couldn’t take place before Christmas & her chemo couldn’t take place until after that. She recently got an Onc appointment for today so, all being well, she should start cycle 4 next Wednesday, on schedule.
The problem is, we don’t know whether the appointment will go ahead today, due to all the travel problems. We’re going to ring the hospital as soon as the department opens to check. Fingers crossed!!
(Sorry to bleat about the snow in London – it must be much, MUCH more dramatic up your way!!!)
December 19, 2009 at 3:01 pm #33774gavinModeratorHi Lainy,
Thanks for that, and it’s good to see you too, as it always is. I sure hope dad is proud and I hope he approves of how I take care of mum. I’m okay I guess and mum is too, We both miss him like crazy as you would expect but we’re just trying to get on with things as dad would want us to do that.
I’ve got appointments next week with the banks to sort out dads accounts and stuff and I have to go into his old work next week to see about his pension and sort that out for mum. Not looking forward to that but I guess it’s got to be done. I sorted out all dads funeral arrangements and dealt with the undertaker as mum wasn’t really up to that and that was also not easy, but again had to be done. Mums sister and my cousins have been around a lot and that has been good for mum. I went back to day care centre yesterday to hand in thank you cards to all the nurses and staff and had a long talk with the head nurse and she was telling me some good stories of dad in day care and that was nice. And dads Macmillan nurse is coming to see us in the new year and mum will appreciate that. The minister who conducted the funeral is also coming to see mum again next week and he was also round to visit us twice leading up to dads funeral.
Yes you are so right about what you say about what we experience as carers, and I just hope I can do a good job now in caring for mum, as that would make dad happy and it is what dad wanted me to do. And yes I will be taking care of myself along the road.
Hi Marion,
Yes you are right about information helping us all so I will post stuff that I think may help us. And Rick does indeed do a good job of pulling posts containing adverts and keeping the site running well for us all.
My thanks and best wishes to you both.
Gavin
December 18, 2009 at 7:16 pm #33773marionsModeratorGavin….absolutely, posting information is to the benefit of all. This is not a censored site excluding, of course, advertisements of any sort. As you may have noticed Rick will pull those immediately.
Much love,
MarionDecember 18, 2009 at 3:20 pm #33772lainySpectatorHello Gavin, and it is so good to see you! I know how you must miss your dad as you were along side him for such a long time. I am sure he was very proud of you as he is beaming now as he watches over you. How is mum doing and how are you doing? Everything is still so fresh and keep in mind that your every ounce of energy was spent being a Caretaker and now that responsibility is over and it will take time to fill that void in your life. Even though we go through what we do as Caretakers there is something to say about what we gain from it. Mental strength, empathy, understanding, knowledge and more love than we ever thought possible. You certainly rose to the occasion and now even with taking care of Mum, be kind to yourself.
December 18, 2009 at 2:38 pm #33771gavinModeratorJulia,
Things are tough as you would imagine, but we are getting by. I can’t even begin to express how much I miss dad, but that is to be expected. I guess we just have to try and get on with things and that is what dad would want us to do. I’m looking after mum and am keeping my promise to him. Dads funeral was on Wednesday and that was so hard, but we gave dad a good send off and all his family and friends from all these years were there to pay their respects.
How are you and your sister just now? I remember reading that her chemo was stopped for over Christmas?
Marion,
If I see or find anything that I think may be of use to someone then I will post the links if that is okay. I can’t say that I know anything really about genomics, but this story was all over our news in the UK so thought it would be of interest. And like you feel, anything that helps in the fight against cancer could do with being hurried up a bit.
Best wishes to you both
Gavin
December 17, 2009 at 6:16 pm #33770marionsModeratorThank you Gavin. It is so very much appreciated when members bring to the attention pertainant information particularly, something like genomics. Personalized medicine is in the future for all. I just want it to hurry up a bit.
Hugs
MarionDecember 17, 2009 at 5:41 pm #33769lalupesSpectatorThank you, Gavin – I caught bits of this on the news yesterday but didn’t get a chance to find out more about it, so I’m very grateful for the link.
How are you??
