SweetGreen…….The wonderful news is that your husband is feeling well.
These are my thoughts: due to the previous treatments and your husband building resistance to the above mentioned drugs, it is highly unlikely for him to qualify for an available phase II clinical trial. The exclusion criteria is quite stringent. And, that may be the reason for the referral to Dr. Cleary. Asking questions such as: why do you recommend this trial? What is the data of the phase O? What are the indications in Cholangiocarcinoma? Are there any correlating studies? Are there similar trials? What does it take for my husband to be enrolled? Do we have to travel to your Institution or can it be administered in a community setting? How do you address toxicity issues? Will my insurance pay for participation of this trial? What additional cost I am confronted with?
It may also be that Dr. Cleary will recommend another type of treatment. I wish you the best of luck and please keep us posted.
    Hugs,
    Marion

My husband’s oncologist has suggested we get in touch with him to talk about clinical trials. From what I read on their site, his specialty is phase 1 targeted therapies. I’m going to call his office tomorrow, but wondering what I should be asking? We are reaching a point where we need to find a new treatment. Do we want to talk with someone who does Phase 1 trials? I feel like my husband is pretty healthy, so we should stick with Phase 2. Any advice?

This is what we’ve done so far:
    1) Gem/Cis (stopped after 1 cycle because of severe effects)
    2) Gem/Carbo (stopped bc CA 19-9 went up)
    3) Folfox (stopped bc CA 19-9 went up/never went down)
    4) Gem/Abraxane (CA 19-9 starting to go up)
