Although much of the experience on here makes difficult reading I find it a great help to know there are wonderful people who are so supportive to each other.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. This is such a horrible cancer, it seemed like every appointment we heard worse news. So you get your hope up for the next thing to try and then go through the same thing all over again. I’ve explored this site only a little bit and already it gives me some comfort. My mom thought her legs looked a little yellow months before this all started. I couldn’t tell in the indoor light but I said she should ask her doctor about it. I should have insisted that she ask her doctor. I saw Dr. Giles answered a question on this site about someone else who had something similar happen. It seems that this disease is hard to catch early on.

Hi:
My name is Doug and my Mom (Yvonne, age 69) was diagnosed with CC in June, 2009. They thought it was pancreatic cancer here in Albuquerque but put in 2 plastic stents in 2 different ERCP’s. So we went to the Mayo clinic in Minnesota where they diagnosed it as CC. One surgeon there said it was inoperable, so we asked for a 2nd opinion. The 2nd surgeon thought he could resect the liver and get rid of it but the initial laparoscopy showed that it had spread to the stomach lining and was therefore inoperable. She had the plastic stents replaced and found out she was not a candidate for Photo-Dynamic Therapy.
We came back to Albuquerque, and started Gemzar which she tolerated well. At first it looked like it was working, the CA-119 tumor marker went from 10,000+ down to 2,000 but then it went back up to 3,500. So we replaced the plastic stents again and switched to something more toxic, a combination of Irinotecan, Xeloda and Celebrex. This totally wiped out her energy and we found out she had an infection. We stopped the chemo and started on a course of antibiotics. But she had an unexpected heart attack on 11/27/09, the day after Thanksgiving and passed away.
I stumbled across this site while we were in Minnesota and showed it to my Mom. It gave her some comfort to read about other people that were going through the same thing that she was going through, although it did cause a little distress discovering how quickly this cancer can kill you.
But we never gave up hope we could beat this horrible disease. We did a lot of reading about how important nutrition, vitamins and supplements could be in this fight and tried to implement this in addition to the chemo.
I just feel such a tremendous loss and I’ve never been so sad in my life. So I’ve decided to try and participate in this site to see if that helps with the grief and maybe I can help some other people in the process. She would have liked that.
