Dear Suz,
I am very sorry to hear this news about your sister. I was there with my dad when things progressed and I can feel the pain that you are going through right now. I agree with what Lainy says about hospice and they will be best placed to deal with your sisters needs. My dad went through hospice care and I have nothing but great things to say about the care that he received from them.
Pain and other symptoms that can arise will be able to be controlled best with the hospice team and I know that they will be of great help and support to you as well. You know that we are all here for you as well always and will do what we can for you. I know that this is a frightening time and that you are scared, so please come here as much as you want. We are here for you.
Hugs,
Gavin

That is such a difficult situation… I can relate as my sister was turned away from chemo many times for the same reason. Wondering why onc doesn’t change to a different chemo drug. Something not as hard on the blood cells. Xeloda is what my sister is on now and its easier on the platelets. Many do a bimbo of Xeloda with another chemo drug.
Please let us know what the Dr says and which approach you’re taking. Sincerely, WillowJuly 2, 2013 at 1:57 pm #68158lainySpectatorDear Suz, Has anyone talked to the ONC about bringing in Hospice? Hospice does not mean the end right away but can help to make your Sister more comfortable. I would def have a talk with the ONC and if he/she feels the same the ONC can order them to come visit and you are usually set up in 24 hours, bed and all. The day they came to us Teddy felt better as the hospital bed made it easier for him to get up and down. What drug do they have her on for pain and is it working? Is she eating ok? Hospice usually starts out with visits 1 – 2 a week and increase visits as needed. You might want to think about it as the bottom line is comfort. Wishing you and your Sister the best.

I am sorry that your sister has not been able to resume her chemo and that she is deteriorating. There is still much that can be done to prevent your sister from experiencing pain and other symptoms that she might have. It might take some adjusting, but the narcotics can be increased – there is no need for her to be in any pain.
Do you have any support in terms of emotional and physical care?
July 2, 2013 at 10:44 am #68156suzMemberThank you so much for your kind words and prayers. My Sis seems to very suddenly be getting sicker. The cancer seems to be growing very fast . After months with no pain she now has to take a narcotic for the returning pain in her side. And still has not been able to increase chemo because of bloodwork. I know the Dr is just trying to help her feel better with the chemo but I would say we are coming to the end of the this fight soon. Watching her fear and emotional and physical suffering is so hard. We are both so scared for what’s coming. Thanks everyone for being here for all of us. So many broken hearts yet so much love and hope. You are all an inspiration to me.

Love WillowJune 27, 2013 at 3:28 pm #68153pamelaSpectatorDear Suz,
Iam so sorry to hear about your sister’s difficulty with getting chemo. You are doing everything you can for her just by being there for her and showing her you love her. I think you need to have a discussion with her doctor and weigh the pros and cons of chemo. Comfort is the most important thing for your sister at this time. I will keep you both in my prayers.
Love,

June 27, 2013 at 2:03 pm #68151lainySpectatorDear Suz, sending all the best today for your Sister. Guess, me being me, would ask the ONC is this plan working? What are we hoping to get out of it and if not what are we looking at. Is the ONC giving her anything for her discomfort? Sending all the best ever!
June 27, 2013 at 12:26 pm #68150scheitrumcSpectatorI hope your sister is able to get chemo today. It is such a difficult feeling as a caregiver when you hear that chemo needs to be delayed. I will be thinking of both of you today and wishing for the best.

June 27, 2013 at 10:36 am #68149suzMemberMy sister was supposed to go back on a more aggressive schedule of Gem Cis since the Tumors are growing but today will be her third attempt to get chemo as the last 2 weeks she couldn’t get it because of her platelets. She is frightened and devastated. The tumor in her liver area is starting to be very uncomfortable. I am so hoping she can have her chemo today. She’s starting to feel weaker too. How much more chemo can a body take I wonder. And if the Tumors are resistant then it seems like pumping in a gallon of chemo won’t stop the monster. The sadness is so overwhelming sometimes . I see the fear and sadness in my sisters eyes everyday and I wish there was something to do. Thanks for all your love and kindness here.
SuzJune 7, 2013 at 12:53 am #68148lainySpectatorDear Suz, I am so very sorry to hear about your Sister’s report. I have everything crossed in hopes for a turn around after the new cocktail is started. Thankful that you are able to have this option. Wishing you all the best and looking forward to a much better report. You never know how strong you are until “strong” is the only choice you have!
