    Rob –
Welcome to the family. I have to say your story sounds an awful like my husband’s. He had no symptoms and his was found incidently in the ER on a CT scan while they were looking for kidney stones also. We think he actually passed the stone while in the waiting room but they did the CT anyway. Three weeks later he had a 3 cm perihilar tumor removed with one positive lymph node.
Chemo or not to chemo, that is a choice. It can be a difficult one too. If you use the search button on the header, you will surely find several discussions about this. You will be able to follow others on their decision. My husband chose to do chemo and chemoradiation to give him what he felt was the chance to have it not come back.
I would also encourage you to get a second opinion just to make sure that all you bases are covered.

    Hi Rob,

Congratulations on your resection and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
As Lainy and Marion mentioned, chemo is a very personal choice in your case.
The truth is that there is not enough studies to prove what is the best way to proceed.
However even after a successful resection, a patient might have some microscopic cancer cells that cannot be seen while having surgery on on any scan.

From what I have seen, most patients tend to go for chemo and radiation to try to eliminate any possibility of reoccurrence.
That decision is also based on age, general health and many other factors.

I live in Cape Coral, 45 minutes away from you.
If you would have any questions or need ANYTHING at all ( I MEAN ANYTHING), please do not hesitate to contact me.

Dear Rob, Welcome to our CC Family and the best place to be for CC support and a huge YIPPEE! Surgery is our favorite word and I guess we should give a shout out for possible kidney stones and a heck of a good ONC. Like Marion said, to Chemo or not is one of our biggest topics and a very personal decision. It sounds like your recovery has moved along smoothly and that is also a big plus. A story like yours brings so much HOPE to our community so please let us know how things are going as we truly care!

Rob….welcome to our special group and congratulations on the successful resection; that and early detection allows for the greatest chance of non disease recurrence. Take a deep breath and enjoy the good news, dear Rob. Adjuvant therapy is advised by the majority of physicians however; we don’t have any clear data as to the efficacy of doing so. It is a hotly debated subject on this board and within the clinical community therefore, please share with us the results of the upcoming visit. In the meantime I wish for a continuous and uneventful recovery.
    Hugs,
    Marion

    Hello Everyone,
I was diagnosed in April, had a liver resection 5 weeks ago, and I was told by my surgical oncologist 3 weeks ago, i’m cancer free? I do have an appointment with my local oncologist next week to review the pathology from the surgery and figure out future treatments if any? I was very lucky (blessed), the 4.3cm tumor was found incidentally during a CT scan for kidney stones and I had no symptoms. Looks like I have one more weekend of “wondering whats next”, hoping for no chemo, just monitoring! Thanks for listening, Rob
