stageivlife…..we have reports of pain and night sweats related to positive response to treatment as well as tumor progression. You may want keep a fever diary, take the temperature at periods throughout the day and night, but by all means, report to the physician.
A sudden-onset of fever accompanied by rigors and chills is different, in that it may be indicative of a bacterial infection. Again, the physician is the best source of information.

As you have probably read, infection is very common with cc, and can quickly escalate to a dangerous level. If he is developing an infection, he probably needs to go on an antibiotic asap.
Even if not an infection, the doctor should know about it. Not trying to worry you.

August 16, 2016 at 9:43 am #92947chinesechickSpectatorThat’s good your dad is responding well to the treatment.
My mom was diagnosed with ICC this past March. She is currently overseas and received 10 doses of TS1 chemo. It helped but stopped working. I’ve been here for over a month to help.
I asked the doctor today about GEM/CIS. He said the results are not very effective, possibly 15% at the most…so it is great to hear its working for some.
Take care.
August 16, 2016 at 7:09 am #92946stageivlifeMemberThanks, everyone. He was able to receive chemo last week, but then he fought fevers each night. He had to go in for another transfusion and it seems to be helping. Hopefully, chemo today.
I’ve noticed that he’s started having pains and night sweats again and am scared the chemo isn’t working. Am I being crazy?
August 9, 2016 at 10:29 pm #92945marionsModeratorI too would like to welcome you to our special group of people searching for answers to this uncommon cancer.
I agree with the others, your father’s positive response to the treatment is wonderful. Please don’t worry too much about missing last weeks chemo, as most have a tendency to bring up their counts enough to receive the next scheduled treatment.

I am leaving everything behind to go care for him. I leave Wednesday. My father and I are super close, and this is all so new to me, also. I love this board! There is so much info and support here!
Sending best wishes for you and your dad!

I’m sorry your dad has this awful disease, but so glad you found us, as our members have much knowledge and support to offer. Your dad’s response to the GEM/CIS is terrific. Good for him! Also, I think it’s wonderful that you are able to devote your time to care for your dad.
Wishing continued positive response.

August 8, 2016 at 4:10 pm #12676stageivlifeMemberHi there.
The day after Mother’s Day, my father called to tell me he had cancer. He’s 63. He hadn’t been feeling right since getting food poisoning in early April and went to his PCP who noticed a liver lump on the physical exam. From there, the doctor sent him for blood work and a CT scan that showed he has tumors all over his body. (Liver, pancreas, spine, both hip bones, and on the pads of his heart.)
I flew down and have been with him ever since. Originally, things were not looking good. He spent half of June in the hospital with one infection after another. July has been better.
The liver biopsy showed adenocarcinoma and genetic testing confirmed ICC. He’s been on the gemzar/cisplatin mix and responding well — last PET scan showed big reductions in all of the tumors. His counts were too low for chemo last week; we’re hoping this week will be better.
I’ve been reading these boards for the last couple of months and wanted to say thank you. As I navigate the new role of caretaker, I love the idea that this becomes a manageable chronic disease instead of one with just terrifying statistics — this board has helped me so much.
