Dear Sylvia – I was so excited to hear that treatment worked and you are now a candidate for liver resection. Please keep us posted about live donor potentials. Do you have any siblings? I look forward to hearing more. Blessings, Susan

Dear Sylvi, welcome to our wonderful family but sorry you had to find us. You certainly have some good to share and we are excited for you to be put on the transplant list. I would be interested in knowing what suggestions your team comes up with and perhaps you will also get some ideas from our very intelligent members! You go girl, we are all your cheerleaders and we all care!

Hello Sylvia and welcome to our site. Congratulations on the all clear for a transplant. I don’t have any answer re: live donor and I don’t believe that we have had any previous discussion as to how to find a live donor as in most instances a family member became an acceptable match and things proceeded from there. I very much hope for someone to come forward and enlighten us and possible allowing for an entire new thread focusing on just this particular issue. Has your MELD score placed you higher on the list?

Again, hopefully your question will bring about some answers. Others must have been in a similar position and they must have some information to share with us.
I am so happy to hear that you have been cleared for a transplant and am wishing for things to move for you quickly.
    All my best wishes,
    Marion

I am a 53 year old woman who was diagnosed with non-resectable cholangiocarcinoma in June 2010. I am being treated at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto and I am so grateful for this amazing facility and its staff for getting me to this stage in my journey. After initial testing and ERCP stent insertion, I was given the green light to begin treatment under the Mayo Protocol. I have successfully completed the aggressive radiation and chemo therapy and my staging laparotomy has revealed no spread of cancer. More testing has satisfied the doctors that the treatment has reduced the size of my tumour and I suffered no ill effects from the therapy, so I am now receiving maintenance chemo therapy and am on the waiting list for a liver transplant. While this is great news and I am looking forward to a positive outcome, my challenge now is to find a living donor for the transplant in order to avoid the risks of waiting too long for the surgery. I never married and have no children, so my options are quite limited. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what resources might be available to me in my search for a donor. I have contacted my transplant team and some local organ donation organizations, but any input from someone who has been down this road would be much appreciated. Thanks for listening, I look forward to any feedback and continuing to share in more discussions on this terrific site!
