October 12, 2010 at 11:33 pm #42706sunshinecaregiverMemberYou can tell the great Drs by their interest in new subjects and treatments. The Drs caring for Mom welcomed my input and even used information I had printed in my “educate myself first” before her hospitalization. I tried to be knowledgable so I could ask questions and add to information that I had already gleened from all of the internet sites. This organization was discovered after Mom came home, but I sent it back for the Drs to use for new patients. Every person helping another…isn’t that a wonderful thing?
October 12, 2010 at 8:32 pm #42705gavinModeratorHi there,
Welcome to the site. Sorry that you had to join us all but I’m glad that you have done so. I was my dad’s carer after he was diagnosed in 2008 so I know what a tough time you are going through right now. And yes you are right about going from day to day and making the most of each day.
I am glad that your mum is recovering from her surgery and that you say there were no problems. And I also hope that she continues to gain weight. I hope you keep coming back as you will get a ton of support from everyone, and please feel free to ask any question which you might have as I am sure that there will be someone that can answer them.
Best wishes to you and your mum,
Gavin

I think if my original oncologist had read some of these posts, he would not have been the way he was..uninformed. Also what a way to get the doctors to give this information to patients when they (the doctors) don’t know what else to tell them.
I know I’m going to send this to my oncologist.

October 10, 2010 at 3:02 am #42703lainySpectatorOMGosh, Sunshine, I do believe you have hit a major button here! What if we all emailed this site to our Oncologists, Radiologists, whomever and what ever.
You know that old saying can’t see the forest for the trees. We LOVE the Newbies and their ideas. What do you all think about this one? What a way to get our Name and Goal out there!October 10, 2010 at 1:49 am #42702sunshinecaregiverMemberThis site has provided insight to so many of my questions. It has provided education on patient care, different symptoms/situations and given me a heads up on many problems I might encounter. I love the site and have sent this web address to the Shands University of Florida teaching hospital for a reference for patients and doctors who are dealing with cholangiocarcinoma. Thanks for being there for so many of us assisting family and friends or fighting the disease. I have felt so alone and helpless and this site always makes my day go better.
October 9, 2010 at 12:43 pm #42701lainySpectatorHello Sunshine and Welcome to our wonderful Family. Glad to hear your Mother is coming along fine and gaining some weight back as well. I just want to mention that my Mom (who is 94 now) has always had UTI’s and it was due to not drinking enough water. She had a great (weird) philosophy that if she drank more water that meant going to the bathroom more and she just didn’t want all those trips to the bathroom. Go know! I also love your name as I call one of my Grandkids ‘Sunshine’. I am wishing for continued good news about your mom.
October 9, 2010 at 12:32 am #42700marionsModeratorHello and welcome to our site. I am glad to hear that your Mom has recovered and is gaining weight. (This must be the only place where weight gain is cheered.) Great to hear that she is responding well to the pain medication and the dull ache is not too bothersome.
I am glad that you have found us. We just love when people find us and become part of this great group.
Best wishes,
MarionOctober 8, 2010 at 3:21 pm #4141sunshinecaregiverMemberHi, I am caring for my Mom. She was diagnosed with a Klatskin tumor 7/3/09. she had stents placed in her bile ducts to drain bile and is inelgible for surgery due to age/other medical conditions. She has elected no other treatment. We have gone through the recovery from her surgery and had no other problems except for occasional pain that requires medication, but continues to have a dull ache at all times. She recently had a stay in the hospital for a UTI, but is back home and gaining weight again. We just go from day to day enjoying all as best we can.
