I second what Lainy said. Enthusiasm is no substitute for experience. My onc had very limited experience with CCA. Maybe she has treated one other case. Could never get a straight answer. Never got an answer about whether the main hospital had any more experience.

I am trying to get into a clinical trial. That doctor is currently treating 15-20 patients with liver/bile duct cancer.

DMiller…I agree with Lainy in that ultimately the physician needs to inform you about this disease.
Please take a look at the below link. You may find the answer you are looking for:

DMiller, honestly I can see why you are questioning and I am wondering if your ONC has treated this before. My best answer would be to get another opinion right away. I am wondering how much CC this ONC has treated. I would make some inquiries and make sure your ONC and the hospital you go to are experienced with this Cancer. When a Doctor of any kind does not know what something means……time to go to another. Are there any large hospitals near you? That would be a good place to start looking. I know others will come along with some ideas for you.

No matter how much I’ve read i still don’t understand this cancer. I have ICC. My lesion is currently down to 4.2 centimeter . It originally started. Out close to 9. Two rounds of chemo and two radiation treatments. So when your getting treatment is it for the lesions and/or bile duct or is it one in the same. If they get rid of the lesion do you still have bile duct cancer. Does the treatment not get rid of the cancer cells in the bile duct. Don’t understand why it’s not curable as my doctor told me.

Last scan said overall decrease size of the lesion in segments 4b with persistent areas of more solid enhancement particularly in the inferior aspect of the lesion. Dr said its not bad news not good news. But said he does not know what that means and has to get with the radiologist to have him look at it. He supposed to call me Thursday with an answer. Hard to believe he does not know what this means being an oncologist.

On another note my gallbladder has disappeared. Any answers to my question would be very much appreciated.
