HE COULDN’T TAKE THE DIURETIC BECAUSE HIS BLOOD PRESSURE IS TOO LOW. I BELIEVE THAT HAPPENED WHEN THEY REMOVED THE FLUID FROM HIS STOMACH. THANK YOU FOR THE INFO. WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS TOMORROW .

I don’t know they answer to this however, I do know that certain criteria excludes different treatments. 5-FU has been used for 30 years whereas the combo. Gem/Cis is relatively new. The ascities may present itself to be a problem for this combination but, you might want to ask what exactly is causing the consideration of using one over the other therapy and what specificly, the reasons are for that decision. There is still much information to be gathered from the Gem/Cis study but, it appears that metastatic disease patients did not fair as well. I will try to keep everyone posted regarding anything I can find out regarding this study. But, please, do not hold back from doing your very own research also. Has your husband been given any diuretics for the ascities? And, if so, has it helped?
Thinking of you and I am sending my best wishes your way,

THE VA WANTS TO START MY HUSBAND ON FU-5 THAT ALONG WITH GEMCIDIBINE TOMORROW. WE WANT GEM/CIS. THEY SAY THEY CAN’T DO IT BECAUSE HE IS RETAINING SO MUCH FLUID IN HIS STOMACH. IS THIS ANOTHER EXCUSE OR ARE THEY RIGHT?
