I too am so sorry to hear of your father’s passing. There is no way of knowing why these things happen as they do. Why some go quickly and some successful fight this terribly unpredictable disease.
Know that your father is no longer suffering and is now in a better place. He will always be with you and your family in your hearts and memories.
My heart goes out to you and your family at this sad time.
Love & Hugs,
DarlaJune 3, 2011 at 7:44 pm #45506gavinModeratorDear Samlee,

his bile duct tumor surgery (ascites tat becaem infected, anastomosis bleeding, pancreatic juice leakage, friable tissues leading to more bleeding, eventual fluid imbalance, blood pressure drops & liver function deterioration) my father had passed away as an inpatient in the ICU. The medical staff were so impressed by my dad’s vigor and stamina, but in the end, it was all just too much for him to continue to endure. My mom, sister & I were there for the final 24 hours of his life. He confirmed that he was ready to go willingly and suffer no more. We do not blame the surical team nor the hospital staff; I believe my dad was an unlucky statistic of the 5-10% mortality risk and 15-20% complication risk pool. Were in the process of reviewing what went wrong but it will not bring him back. Contributions to this oranization were made in my father’s name.April 20, 2011 at 1:41 pm #45503lainySpectatorGood news Sam snd please keep in mind recovery on this is slow but the results are the best!
April 20, 2011 at 11:30 am #45502pamSpectatorExcellent Samiee, your dad is a true fighter. He must be fairly young and in good health? Your dad’s surgery was what my dad needed, a whipple and resection. Unfortunately, my dad’s surgeon decided against it. I hope your dad has a speedy and uneventful recovery. Best of good wishes to you too.

April 16, 2011 at 12:01 am #45497marionsModeratorSam…..Everything sounds great. As the physicians say they never really know the extent of the disease until the point of surgery. Good luck for the next step that being the recovery phase.
Thinking of you and am sending many good wishes your way,

April 15, 2011 at 9:08 pm #45495staktupMemberIt’s 5:05PM. My dad went in around 7:30, 1st incision around 9. Surgeon came out around 3:45PM & said the whipple is done, but the duct leading into the liver had a lot of cancerous growth. We decided to push forward and remove the affected portion of the liver. The risk of fatal complications double, but he said it’s about 5% now vs. 2.5% as before. HR, BP, vitals are solid. Will report back.
April 8, 2011 at 5:43 am #45494marionsModeratorSam…great news. Finally everything is moving past the ambiguous state and some definite plans have been made. BTW I also wanted to remind you about the “pillow” post surgery. Have your Dad press it against his abdomen while coughing….it really helps diminish the pain..
All my best wishes and please, keep us posted.
MarionApril 8, 2011 at 2:19 am #45493lainySpectatorSam that is just wonderful news.I think we all get more excited at the prospect of surgery than any other people I know. I guess the only advise I can give is that you will all need a lot of patience as whether its a Whipple, Resection or etc. the recovery is usually a long one. But each day gets better and when you get good results you will know it was all worth it. I will be praying and sending best wishes your way.
