February 13, 2011 at 6:52 pm #47693kellyMemberOh, I didn’t mean to put that weird smiley face at the top, please excuse me.
February 13, 2011 at 6:49 pm #47692kellyMember:o) I will pick some up on my way to her house after work. I work as a Group Home manager for people with intellectual, physical dissibilities, Autism and co occuring mental health concerns and a staple here is Ensure supplement. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that but thank YOU for reminding me.
February 13, 2011 at 6:15 pm #47691nur1954SpectatorKelly – Carnation Instant Breakfast is a good way to add weight and protein…..my son’s oncologist always recommended it. – Nancy
February 13, 2011 at 5:43 pm #47690kellyMemberI am so very thankful for all of your suggestions and will look into them all. This has been the longest weekend ever and I have a new disdain for insurance companies and weekends. In the meantime I’m trying to put a few extra pounds on her. She is about 5’9 and 125lbs. She’s stayed slender because she has very bad arthritis and problems with her discs in her neck and back and the doctor told her she would need to control her weight to lessen the pain. Now its all I can to do fatten her up a little bit. I am trying to introduce her to this site but she isn’t ready yet. Because we do not have the official diagnosis, and because mentally she is not mentally ready, this news is still very fresh for us all. I am very thankful for all of you and for your suggestions.
February 13, 2011 at 4:39 pm #47689nur1954SpectatorKelly – If you are only 2 hours from Sloan, I say go there for a second opinion. Columbia Presbyterian in NY is also wonderrful……
February 13, 2011 at 3:29 pm #47688djSpectatorKathy, you may want to research Dr Geschwind at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He treated my Dad, and I’ve seen his name mentioned in other posts. Best of luck in your search.
DonnaFebruary 13, 2011 at 3:21 pm #47687lainySpectatorKelly, lately we have experienced some rave reviews about Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and Mayo Rochester MN is one of the very best. If you go to the home page of our Discussion Board ther is a site called, I think, Hospitals. We have started a great collection of hospitals where our members have been treated. Perhaps that can help.
February 13, 2011 at 2:27 pm #47686kellyMemberSo strange. The doctor actually said not even tO bother with sloan Kettering. We live just outside of new haven so SK is under two hours. The doctor seemingly had a bad experience there. I don’t really c are where I have to take her. I just want her to have the best possible care she can. THANK YOU for being a weekend board warrior!!
February 13, 2011 at 1:47 pm #47685lainySpectatorKelly, are you near any major cities? I give the doctor a lot of credit to admit where you are is not the best to treat CC. When you say Cancer Treatment Centers do you mean Cancer Centers of America? They are not as well versed with CC. Not sure how far you are from say, John Hopkins, Sloam Kettering BIG Hospitals like that. I know what you mean by the color change. When Teddy was diagnosed he was a mustard yellow. I said, “You know I don’t like you in yellow”. Because of Mom’s age she has a better chance of fighting. And, once you get a game plan in place your fears will ease up as you will begin the fight mode. Weekends are usually more quiet around here but hopefully someone will pop up to mention some more hospitals in your area.
February 13, 2011 at 5:49 am #47684kellyMemberBecause the doctor has not yet done a biopsy, he cannot say with certainty however the cat scan shows a blockage in the duct. She’s also got some additional spots on her liver. We live in Connecticut. My doctor refered her to the cancer treatment hospital in philidelphia. We will know more on Monday. What got her to go to the doctors was that she was severely jaundiced. Here a woman of Irish heritage and suddenly in a new England winter he’s orange. The doctor said this form is so rare that the oncologists here won’t be familiar enough to even try to help her. We’ll see Monday what we are to do next. Mom is young, she’ll be 58 in march. Has been a smoker in the past but not now. Never a drinker. We’re just all still in such shock. I am thankful to have found you guys!
February 12, 2011 at 9:50 pm #47683lainySpectatorHello Kelly and welcome to our wonderful family although I am so sorry you had to find us. Truly sorry about your Mom. Can you tell us a little more? Where is the CC? Where is Mom being treated and has the ONC had experience with CC? What is his prognosis. CC knows no age and it has no set rules. Mostly we know that we know not much which is why this Board is so fantastic. You will find the most caring, loving people on earth all right here! Feel free to come by to rant, ask or advise as you are not alone here.
February 12, 2011 at 9:13 pm #4756kellyMemberYesterday my mother went for some tests. The doctor had us all meet at his office at 7 pm for the results. Though there has been no biopsy yet, he believes herbto have cholangelocarcinoma. We’re all quite stunned as mom is young and was generally in good health. I am thankful to have found this board.
