    Patty,
I’m so glad that your mother was able to see her 7th grandchild. Children are certainly a gift from God, and a grandchild is especially precious. Thank you for the update.

    Patty,

Good to see you back. Reference librarian, we will all be keeping that in mind :) as there is no end to the research.

I have not been able to post much because I moved in with my Mom to care for her and she did not have Internet service but we finally went over her head and ordered it. I jokingly told her it only cost $200 a month and she sat up a little straighter and said “What!” so I think the shock therapy worked!

My mom is hanging in there and I wanted to let everyone know that her 7th grandchild, a boy, was born healthy and hale on July 3rd. She has set herself some other small goals and, God willing, she will meet them. She still greatly enjoys people and was the hit of the family picnic this past weekend and we almost have to post a ticket taker at the door for visitors, it’s getting to be like an audience with the Queen!

One thing I have not mentioned before is that I am a reference librarian and if you are having trouble locating information on something (a new drug or therapy) I would be more than willing to take a professional stab at finding it, just e-mail me.

hi Patti. I am also from Chicago and my mom was diagnosed in Oct 07. If you have any good experiences with doctors in this area please let me know. My mom is seeing an Oncologist from Lutheran General in Park Ridge. She’s been treated with 2 types of chemo, neither which have worked. I took her to Mayo Clinic as well and they were not able to do anything further. I’m sort of just watching her get worse. I feel like I should be doing something but I don’t know what. Anyways just wanted to say hi since we are from the same area!

I pray that your mother will see her grandchild be born. Life can bring such joy to any person. You are lucky to have 6 siblings that are all willing and able to help out. It is hard when you are doing everything by yourself.

    Best of luck,
    Christina

I wish nothing but the best for you and your family. I hope your mother achieves her goal and then sets another. Who knows what role the mind can play in this situation.

Patty, welcome, although I’m sorry to hear about your mother’s condition. This is truly a devatating disease. I pray that your mom will see her grandchild born. God bless you.

My mother Pamela was diagnosed in Dec. 2007 and it has been a tough battle. She is 66 and I think her age is just a huge factor and she has heart problems and does not have healthy dietary habits so she doesn’t really have anything to fight this off and it has really cut her off at the knees, she has lost so much weight. She said she wanted to hold on until my nephew’s 1st birthday and she made it and now she set herself the goal of seeing her 7th grandchild born in mid-July. She had a setback and went back in the hospital yesterday but she is rallying so we are hopeful she will make it. A good thing is I have 6 siblings so we are sharing her care, though it can be very confusing at times with so many people involved.
