Thanks Cathy – definitely open to additional cures!

December 19, 2010 at 4:41 am #43486janetMemberThank you Janet (Cinnamin) for the pineapple juice suggestion. My significant other has had the hiccups for going on four days; I googled Gemzar and hiccups and found this site. Anyway, the pharmacist said to take some Benadryl. He took it and fell asleep but was hiccupping something like every 4 seconds! I woke him up to drink the juice about 45 minutes ago – he hasn’t had even ONE hiccup since he drank it and is now able to sleep peacefully. (I’m going to CVS tomorrow to get some Brioschi, too for backup. It’s listed on their website, so they must still be making it).
Thanks again,
JanetNovember 20, 2010 at 1:28 am #43485lainySpectatorREALLY? I do have 2 bottles yet. I am so surprised!
November 20, 2010 at 12:13 am #43484devoncatSpectatorI had great success with the sugar technique tonight. Thank you for finding that.
On a sad not, the Brioschi that Lainy keeps talking about appears to out of production so if you are using it and like it, you might want to stock up.

November 2, 2010 at 12:01 am #43483gavinModeratorHi Tom,
My dad also had the hiccups quite badly and nothing he ever tried worked for him, so thanks very much for sharing Bens expereinces here and I am glad that this worked for him. And thank you also Janet for your tip of pineapple juice. A tasty drink indeed and even better if it cures the hiccups!
Best wishes,
Gavin
November 1, 2010 at 6:02 pm #43482marionsModeratorJanet… Pineapple juice is a great addition to our CC knowledge bank. Thanks a bunch.

MarionNovember 1, 2010 at 8:08 am #43481cinnaminSpectatorMy Dad experienced horrible hiccups…..he had them for hours at a stretch. And then we discovered that taking a drink of pineapple juice took them away! You can buy it in small cans, it stores forever, tastes good, and best of all it works!
Best wishes,

November 1, 2010 at 12:43 am #43478tlsinftlMemberUpdate on Ben’s hiccups – he still hasn’t had a recurrence since the “spoonful of sugar” (la la la la la la)…..anyway…
Thanks everyone for your comments…Margaret….it will be interesting to monitor hair loss (Ben has a full head of hair…and of course it figures, I’m the one who is bald)…..
Marion – thanks for the tip on the Gemzar, I’ll discuss with the doctor – and I will also post the tip in the side effects section.
I continue to be in awe of the simplicity of using this website and the benefits it brings – and the extraordinary people here.
tom
p.s. as for the halloween party – after Ben’s nap he decided he was too tired to go (I suspect that was an excuse)…so I printed out a large size photo of him and strapped it to the back of my head! So there!
October 31, 2010 at 10:00 pm #43477marionsModeratorTom…..great news about the sugar and hiccups. This is such a great tip and helpful to many I am wondering whether you could also post this under “side effects?”
And, you might also want to post it in the “website section.
Also, I would like to mention that in addition to Jeff’s suggestions re: the origin of hiccups, another one is that Gemzar also has been listed as possibly being a culprit. Either way, you found a remedy, and that is fantastic.
Best wishes,
MarionOctober 31, 2010 at 3:52 pm #43476mlepp0416SpectatorTom: As a side note for Ben….I don’t know if he has any hair, but after Tom’s 3rd treatment of Gemzar/Cisplaitin he has started with the hair loss. He’s just a bit ticked off at that cause he said “I’ve spent 63 years growing this hair and I’m kinda partial to it”. I told him that we can buy him a cute scarf (opps I mean hat) to wear!
Tom has not experienced the hic-cups, only heartburn (and hair loss) so far.
KEEP KICKIN THAT cancer.Margaret
October 31, 2010 at 1:56 pm #43475katjaMemberLainy’s right Tom, you’re a great writer and sound like such a positive person. I bet Ben is glad to have you around (esp to whizz off to the drugstore for him)
Enjoy your halloween party! We are getting so much more like the US here in the UK, pumpkins, ghosts, cobwebs and everything bright orange! -
