So we went to the Oncologist and my dad had an ultrasound to determine if there was any blockage, and they told us there was not. He is scheduled for a CT scan on Monday more so to see what changes have occurred since the last scan a month ago.

No mention of an external drain, and that is very helpful as I will make sure to ask about that possibility.

Our concern is the dramatic jump (4 to 9) in the past two weeks. Trying to stay positive but frustrated because there is nothing that we can do.

Thanks again for your thoughts, and as always wishing everyone the best.

    Lourdes:

From what I know about high bili levels, there really isn’t anything ‘naturally’ that one can do to lower it. The body’s kidneys will filter some of it out, therefore resulting in very dark urine. If they can place a stent internally in the liver where the stricture, tumor or blockage is that should relieve the jaundice. If they cannot place an internal stent, then the next step would be to place an external drain. My Tom had an external drain for the last two years of his life. It’s a bit of a bother as it has to be flushed and the wound cleaned every day…but it did do the job to relieve the jaundice. Tom was very lucky that he never had any of the itching that so many people experience with high bili levels.

I hope they can figure it out!

    Hugs,
    Margaret

Ooops, just noticed that your dad is seeing his onc tom. I would definitely speak with the onc about everything that you mention re blockages, stents etc. And please let us know what the onc says.

    Hi Lourdes,

When was the last time your dad was seen by his doctor/specialist/oncologist? If it was recently, have you spoken to them about this and if so, what did they say about this? Like Roni says, I would recommend that your dad speaks with his medical team about this.

My best wishes to you and your dad,

    Gavin

Usually High bili, means some sort of blockage, in the bile ducts. I would consult the physicians.

    Hi everyone,

My dad has been going through it recently, and over the past couple of months his Bilirubin level has increased dramatically. I’ve been looking for natural ways that may assist in lowering the bilirubin and am wondering if anyone has tried anything that has actually worked.

I saw something about Echinacea juice and Goldenseal…any thoughts would be much appreciated.

(PS. Tomorrow we see his Onc. so my plan is also to ask about possible bile duct blockage and stents…)
