March 5, 2011 at 2:33 pm #48367lainySpectatorThanks Margaret for the information. It just dawned on me that the Hospice by line is “Not for Profit”. Well, I guess that could mean they still make a PROFIT? It’s just not entirely all not for profit!

Also Monday I am picking up the medical file from Hospice and IF there is any doctoring of meds not given I will know. Oh get this! I got a statement from medicare that they paid $8,000 for Teddy’s 4 day stay. 8K and they changed his gown once, he didn’t eat, they didn’t change his sheets, and he didn’t get meds. RIP OFF? Heck they hardly even came in his room!Lainy: I work for an insurance company, not Medicare, however, you can contact Medicare and file a complaint with Medicare about the services that Teddy did NOT receive at that Hospice Facility. It’s called a Quality, Care, Attitude complaint.
I know that the insurance company that I am employed with takes a complaint like this very seriously and our QCA department follows up and will take action against the provider if the complaint is found to be valid. I’m certain that Medicare would be the same. My employer will even rescind the contract(s) that they have with providers if they are proven to be neglient in the care of our of our insured members.
I’m voting for you to contact Medicare and report the facility to them. They should NOT have gotten $8,000 for 4 days of Hospice care as per what I’m hearing they didn’t even ‘earn’ a small portion of that!
You go girl! Kick some butt!

MargaretMarch 4, 2011 at 10:16 pm #48365ritchieMemberLainy,
You said that no one takes care of us like we do,….and that’s the truth! I don’t think that I meant “scary” scary, but more as an expression of astonishment. There are so many things happening out there, that it’s nice to know that there are people “on the alert.”
Sincerely,
RitchieFebruary 26, 2011 at 8:45 pm #48364lainySpectatorRitchie, it is not meant to be scary but to just make everyone aware! No one takes care of us like we do.

Wow! As a patient who has read some of the terrible things that can happen when you have excellent care, this is scary.

February 26, 2011 at 6:04 am #48362slittle1127MemberLainy – Thank you for demonstrating awesome strength and character. You needed to stand up to this inhumane treatment and you are finally being heard. I look forward to hearing that the changes you are requesting are in place. They appear to be making some changes so hopefully you are sparing some other family the horrible treatment Teddy received. Keep up your good work. Susan

Sometimes it’s too easy to convince oursleves that our efforts won’t matter, but they will and do – as you are prooving! And chiming in on Marion’s comment … here is a quote I keep posted by my desk …
“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”
February 25, 2011 at 2:13 pm #48359lainySpectatorThanks Marion, I love that expression. Or in my case a group of small individuals?
February 25, 2011 at 5:47 am #48358marionsModeratorLainy…..I so much agree with the direction you are taking, but then you already know that.
It brought to mind one of my favorite saying:
Never think that a small group of committed individuals can’t make a difference . . . indeed it is the only thing that ever has!”

February 24, 2011 at 7:34 pm #48357lainySpectatorkathyB and Shari, Funny, I had the same feelings you did, Kathy. But we are close now to hopefully making a change and I don’t want to ruffle feathers. I can’t bear another person going through what Teddy did. I will find out tomorrow what my attorney/advocate says to Susan. Wish I was a fly on the wall. I was told I could sue for money but that is not what this is about. I got a statement from Medicare that they were billed $8,000 for the 3 day stay. He was not even given $200 in medicine!! Sometimes I just think its a very strange world we live in and then again I look at my Grandkids and feel WOW it’s awesome! Then I think of Teddy and I know he will be waiting for me to finish that last dance. And I think of all of you and I know someday there will be a cure and life is good!
February 24, 2011 at 7:13 pm #48356sharimayMemberLainy,
I think what you are doing is an awesome thing. There are not very many people who have the courage to bring forth change. There will be many families that will benefit from your courage. Keep up the good work and can’t wait to keep hearing updates.
ShariFebruary 24, 2011 at 5:58 pm #48355kathybMemberInteresting. Being really nice, firing people, using your video has a training (how not to get sued) video, and angry wife now working for them who will help you. hmmm.
Do they have a survey families complete after using their services? If so, maybe this survey should be sent to a different organization, rather than their own directors.
