    Jeff, you always come up with your little gold chain. While its not perfect glad to hear you are getting some control over the pain. I have a feeling that in another life you were some great warrior. You deserve all the medals there are from the Olympic Medal to the Purple Heart. Stay strong and know you are in all our hearts!

    Hi All, I think I let all know in my blog, If not I was put on synthetic methadone(less side effects), 4 times daily with diluadid as a break through med. It works great as long as I’m not to active. With mets to the bones my pain constantly changes or is aggravated with movement and position. So , I’ve learned real quick to sit still or make slow easy movements. I do have room to increase Methadone, but I chose to move slow and at least be awake and enjoy my surroundings. I have had to cut back on size of meals and start following the more often but less, to allow digestion to properly take place. I also take magnesium citrate once weekly and miralax and senna daily, to help keep the bile flowing. One day at a time Sweet Jesus.

    Hi Jeff,

    I hesitate to compare our situation to yours as it was so different, however, the fentanyl patch was used to help control Jim’s pain the last few days and it seemed to be very helpful to him. Hoping they have found what will work for you. Once again, many thoughts & prayers coming your way. Hang in there.

    The Fentanyl patch was very helpful to my mother-in-law. At first she thought it was no good b/c she was using it on her upper arm and due to weight loss had little fat. When we found out it worked best on fatty tissue we put it on her backside and it helped a great deal. She joked that she would never lose fat there! Praying you will find the right one for your situation. Cindy

    Hi Jeff,
    Butch was on dilaudid and it worked wonderfully well for him – almost no pain. I can’t remember why he couldn’t use the fentanyl patch, but he couldn’t, and the diludid did the job.

    Hi Jeff

    Hope they find something that works for you. A Fentanyl patch sounds like a good thing to try, though I know you’ve tried a lot of things already and maybe have done that. What about steroids e.g. Prednisone? It can be very helpful in bone pain. Something that many people find really helpful when nothing else works is an epidural catheter to infuse a narcotic and an anesthetic…much lower doses can be given through that route with much better pain control. It can be administered using either intermittent doses, or with a pump, giving a continuous infusion.

    That’s all I can think of right now…just hoping so much that they can get something that works for you. Keeping you in my prayers Jeff.

    Jeff, my Dad had extensive mets to the bone and was diagnosed at stage 4. He was immediately placed on Dilaudid. It seemed to manage his bone pain, the pain associated with the ascites build up or from his liver really was not at all effected by the Dilaudid. I understand it doesn’t have the same effects as morphine, but it was hard on his digestive system really slowing everything down. I’d heard that the Fentanyl patch is one of the best pain meds that has one of the fewest side effects, especially the ones on the GI tract- we didn’t have time to experiment as he passed into Spirit within 10 weeks of diagnosis.

    Hi All, going in the hospital today to due some pain managment, as this morphine is not working that well anymore. It’s hard dealing with bone pain. a couple nights stay to change over to a different opoid type med. Any suggestions for bone pain of metastic cancer feel free to let me know.
