thanks lainy, and thanks marions i signed up with the cyberknife website you gave me. I am looking for alternatives. My dad had surgery, then it came back and we did srbt radiation. Just wondering what other options are there other then chemo. I know that it all depends where it comes back. I am just researching other alternatives in the mean time. When a new spot showed up on his liver one year after surgery, the surgeon told me that no more surgery would be done and that only chemo would be next. After 2 doses of chemo it knocked him hard where he spent a week in the hospital, and i thought the chemo would kill him. So i went on the internet searching and typed in liver specialist and my result showed a clinical trial for a new drug. So i had the surgeon’s secretary send me in for a consultation. At the consultation we were told about srbt radiation, here im thinking what is this but it sounds good. Now it is 1 1/2 years later and my dad is fine. I always wondered why no one ever told us there are other options. Now i just wonder what options are there other then chemo. I asked the oncologist if a new spot were to appear can we do srbt. She said no because his liver had enough. I figure he had the major surgery 3 years ago where half of the liver was removed. Then srbt was done on a 3.5 cm tumor. So doesnt the liver regrow and rebuild. I now take lainy’s advice and get more opinions . Thanks for your support
November 19, 2014 at 12:55 am #85447marionsModeratormarco….. I don’t have an answer , but did you know that Accuray (maker of Cyberknife) has a forum to which you can direct your questions! I entered the word “liver” and came up with this:

Good luck, dear Marco, and please keep us posted.

MarionNovember 19, 2014 at 12:42 am #85446lainySpectatorMarco all I can tell you is after C.K. my husbands Cancer returned to the same spot. IF it had returned somewhere else they could have used it again but they said it would not work in the same place. IF they say no to C.K. have your Oncologist push for you. I know that helps here but not sure about Canada. Wishing you the best.
November 19, 2014 at 12:09 am #85445marco1SpectatorThanks Lainy and marions for your reply. After my father had his major surgery, a new spot showed up one year later. The surgeon told us that he couldnt operate because it spread, and that chemo was the next stage. I always wondered if they considered him a write off and figured that it spread so he would be on a time sentence. Here in canada this is also covered by the goverment so i also believe the goverment cant fund everyone so how the surgeon spoke was we had our surgery and it came back, they didnt want to continue. Now 1 1/2 years later i asked the oncology doctor(cyberknife specialist) if a new spot were to appear can we zap it. I was told no because he had haver his liver cut out and they used cyberknife for the new tumor. Once again i wonder if she is write that my dads liver coulnt handle another cyberknife, or is this another goverment funding issue. Marion are there cases that cyberknife was done more then once
thanks marcoNovember 17, 2014 at 3:57 am #85444marionsModeratormarco…..you might want to ask the physician. Perhaps it the new lesion is vascular. Has a repeat cyberknife procedure been ruled out. You would want to know.

MarionNovember 17, 2014 at 3:39 am #85443lainySpectatorGood question, Marco and I would see what another ONC tells you especially if the spot is small.
Please let us know what happens.November 17, 2014 at 3:28 am #85442marco1SpectatorHi my father had this treatment and that was 1 and 1/2 years ago. My father also had a new spot on his liver a year after resection. just wondering why they dont go in and resect them. Best of luck marco
November 12, 2014 at 6:23 am #85441marionsModeratorsurfer….I too hate cancer. The good news is that the recurrence is located in an area accessible with pinpoint radiation. The intent of this treatment is to eradicates the lesions in it’s entirety. If there are no other signs of this disease, then it is unlikely for the physician to recommend any other treatment. Please know that everything mentioned by me must be validated by a physician.
Hoping for others to join this conversation as well.
Good luck and please keep us posted.

MarionNovember 11, 2014 at 5:14 am #85440lainySpectatorHello Surfer. My husband had Cyber Knife 3 years after his Whipple as it had returned to the surgical site. It really is easy breezy compared to everything else. Teddy got tired for about a week after and then was fine. He never had chemo but he had radiation before the CK to bring the spot down in size. I think he only had to wait a couple of weeks between the radiation and the CK. Not sure about chemo. Both radiation and chemo keep on cooking for a little bit but I am sure they would not recommend CK if it wouldn’t be a proper time. About starting chemo again I do not know. Good luck on everything.
November 11, 2014 at 4:24 am #10739surfer1SpectatorMy husband had his resection surgery in April 2014 and follow up chemo that he completed in September. Unfortunately, his October scan showed two small spots. After discussing with the surgeon and the oncologist, he had another followup scan and the spots had doubled in size in four weeks. We were referred to a radiologist at the Cancer Center at Riverside Community Hospital that does cyberknife. We saw him this morning and the authorization process has started.
I’ve also sent his followup scan to the surgeon who will review it with a radiologist at cedars sinai.
We’ll see where this goes. I hate cancer.
Do most people do chemo again after cyberknife?
