Kris, I am so sorry about the strike – I am going to boycott french fries for you!! I am hoping to get my Ben out tonite and one of the local restuarants has Karaoke – so I’m going to get someone to sing a Jimmy Buffet song for you….so you will have friends in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida thinking of you.

September 22, 2010 at 5:52 pm #41731marionsModeratorKris…I wonder whether the concert will be repeated due to the strike. This reminds me of the time my husband and I had purchased tickets for the Train de Grande Vitesse, High Speed Train – Bullet Train from Germany to Paris. Of course, this was the one day for Belgium to strike and since we had to pass through Belgium the train also had been cancelled. We were bummed especially, since the train ran the next day and from that time on had not ever been disrupted again.
Hugs
MarionSeptember 22, 2010 at 12:25 pm #41730lainySpectatorKris I am so sorry about your cancelled trip to Paris. Another suggestion would be a trip closer to home but a trip away none the less. We are sending you our best wishes for s successful Monday!
September 22, 2010 at 12:19 pm #41729katjaMemberAww Kris I’m so gutted for you.
Perhaps you could have your own mini Jimmy Buffet concert and create a little Paris at home? I’m not sure what a Jimmy Buffet concert involves however…
Hans could drink wine and adopt a very pro-french attitude (perhaps he could go on strike too), you could do as french women do and eat very little, find a cute cafe nearby to while away the hours? Hans could drive like a loony on the way there…
I know nothing would make up for it, but we’ll all be hoping for you and your surgeon to kick butt on monday.September 22, 2010 at 11:25 am #41728darlaSpectatorOh Kris,
What a disappointment. I do admire your ability to roll with the punchs and taking it all well, looking at it in the best light. They say that everything happens for a reason, but life is not always fair, is it? And yes, both cancer & the French and their stupid strike suck! I am hoping you are right and that you will be in top condition for the surgery and it will all go well. I will be thinking of you on Monday.
Love & Hugs,
DarlaSeptember 22, 2010 at 11:08 am #41727devoncatSpectatorWe looked, but because everyone is in the same boat there are not many tickets left for surrounding cities and the ones available are over 700 euros each.
The ryanair option didnt work either because of flight times and travel distance. I am just not strong enough anymore. Perhaps it is for the best and my body will be tip top for surgery on Monday.

September 22, 2010 at 10:26 am #41726gavinModeratorHi Kris,
I am sorry to hear about this, this sucks, big time!!! Is there not a way that you could look at say getting a flight into Belgium or Gemany and then getting a train from there into Paris? I know that it would make it a longer trip than a direct flight, but would that be possible? Or even a flight into London and the Eurostar direct to Paris? If anyone can still get there without a direct flight then it is you!
Hugs to you,
Gavin
September 22, 2010 at 9:48 am #41725devoncatSpectatorThere will be no Paris for me. France is having a general strike on the airports are pretty much closed and our flights have been cancelled. I have been looking forward to this for months and it is sad I know I will never see Jimmy Buffett again in concert. Cancer sucks…as do the French right now.

I have yet to make it to the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, I think it’s part of my evil scheme to assure that I return to Paris. If you want to enjoy a lovely, quiet, piece of Paris find your way to Place Dauphine. A hidden gem close to the Seine and not far from Notre Dame. And don’t miss out on a Batueau Mouches at night, there is nothing more lovely than seeing the beauty of Paris lit up at night .. romantic too.
Bonne Vacances!

Have a WONDERFUL time in Paris. Enjoy every minute of your Jimmy Buffet concert. I will keep you in my prayers for your upcoming surgery.

September 18, 2010 at 1:15 pm #41722kristinSpectatorParis! Oh you’re sooooooooooooooooo lucky. I lived there from ’79-’85 (with occasional spells in the States) and I still think it’s the most heartbreakingly beautiful place in the world. In ’07 I took my husband there for a week to show him why I chose to live very poor there rather than (say) get a job in economics in the States and he totally agreed.
Walk across the Pont des Arts bridge at night and give Hans a big smooch there. Classic romantic Paris experience!

September 17, 2010 at 9:57 pm #41720lainySpectatorKris, OMG, I can’t resist this, please forgive me but: Tell the airline to reimburse you $10 for the airlines “vomit” bag as you have your own. I am so sorry but about this time of day who knows what I am liable to say! I know you are going to have a great time, to V or not to V. I think I also just plagurized Shakespeare.
September 17, 2010 at 8:50 pm #41719devoncatSpectatorThanks for everyones support. I am really looking forward to Paris and Jimmy Buffett. We are there only 3 nights and we have decided only 1 big thing per day. I am choosing the Decorative Arts Museum and Hans hasnt made up his mind yet on his day.
I talked to the surgeon again today. He warned me that it could take up to 3 weeks before the stomach/intestine realignment worked itself out but also it could take as little as 5 days. They will install a “vomit bag” for lack of a better word. This will allow all the vomit and digestive fluids to come out through a tube in my stomach instead of the traditional way. If the surgery takes, they will remove this. If the surgery doesnt work, I will keep this forever and be sustatined by nutrician bags. I havent heard of one of these little bags before but it sounds weird.
Anyway, I think I have still made the right decision for me. I want to be as normal as possible.

What terrific doctors you have. And what a way to prepare for surgery by going to a Buffet concert, and in Paris no less! Wow. I sure am looking forward to hearing all about everything…..Paris, Buffet, successful surgery. You are such a support to others, now it’s your turn to lean.
Big hugs and prayers coming your way.
Linda
