How is it that I can come on here feeling so sad & yet always end up laughing???
You lot are the BEST!!!!!!!
June 4, 2010 at 4:07 am #38738linda-zSpectatorI absolutely love the sense of humor some of you have. It is refreshing amidst all the problems that we are going through, that we can still find levity in some things.
That “tats” sound very special! Butterflies do sound better, but it’s great that you can swim without worrying about them disappearing. Did they make them in color, or the typical blue/black of most outlined tattoos? At least they could have been a little more artistic!
Swim a lap for me. Sounds wonderful.

My husband Tom is sporting 5 tattos, and yes, they are little ink dots! They do that once they ‘map’ you for radiation. After he had his resection we were talking about getting his scar (mercedes incision) turned into a railroad via a tatto, with a train tattoed on it (but we never did)
Best of luck to you with the radiation treatments! Tom also has a ‘radiation’ burn on his back that just looks like a large bruise. When I was helping him shower and I saw that, I was very concerned that he’d fallen and that ‘bruise’ was the result. We had the radiation oncologist look at it and he told us it was a radiation burn. No biggie, but keep that in mind if you end up with something that looks like a bruise.
Go with God and KEEP KICKIN’ THAT cancer

June 3, 2010 at 10:24 pm #38735kristinSpectatorGot the same 3 little dots with my radiation too!
About a year later, an acquantance of mine (a big, bearded, biker-looking guy) sent around one of those email quizzes where you ask everyone you know strange questions to get to know them better. One of them was, Do you have any tattoos?
Yep, three, I replied.
He wrote back almost immediately and said, “Wow, I had no idea!! What are they?” I refused to tell him, just let him wonder!

I know exactly what you mean. It HURT. I said that if I beat cancer I was going to get a tatoo of a ladybug crawing up my incision scar. No way I say. I hate pain. Hans is very pleased I have had a change of heart.Lisa,
After all you have been through, you think they would have been more accomodating. But then, I would not trust my doctor to be artistic. He is a little serious though sometimes I can make him laugh.
KrisJune 3, 2010 at 8:38 pm #38733lisaSpectatorI got a radiation tatoo. I asked for butterflies, but got little dots instead.

I have the three tattoos you speak of! Even though they are little dots, I immediately vowed to never get a real tattoo. Hurts too much! Maybe I’m just a wimp, but I’m not asking for any pain I don’t have to have :o)

June 3, 2010 at 6:35 pm #38731mark-sSpectatorHaven’t had the need for a Tatoo yet, but if I do I am going to get one that says “Nuke me here” with an arrow!
June 3, 2010 at 3:09 pm #38730lainySpectatorCongratulations, now we can call you Dottie. Or, a dot for you, one for Hans and one for kitty. Or is it Morse Code? How about seeing what others can think of to name Kris’s Tattoo. Teddy’s marks for his radiation were not permanent. Swim to your heart’s content!
June 3, 2010 at 2:48 pm #3617devoncatSpectatorMy nurses tattooed me today so that they could always like up the radiation machine correctly. They had been using ink markings, but said that tattoes are more accurate. I have 3 little dots, that is all. It was especially painful to get it on my stomach near my incision. However, I am happy since I can swim, swim, swim and not worry about washing away the markings.
Anyone else get a tattoo for radiation?
Kris
