Well I talked to the NP. That was good. I told her that I was going to take a more active part. My dad is shy so he would say I feel bloated and not really explain. I told her ya he is pretty shy and where you or I would be Hey I am so bloated I can’t take it….he would say I feel bloated.
I also told her he is scared and we need to help him. Overall she said he is doing well with treatment and is doing much better than she thought he would…he was initially diagnosed with Stage IV Bile duct cancer.
April 10, 2014 at 4:07 am #81501marionsModeratorCrissie….I hope that you can get through tomorrow and speak with the nurse practitioner. I think it is important for you to get the entire story. You would want to address the “recurring” ascites and what is expected of the F-5U treatments. Is your Dad reducing his salt intake? Is he on diuretics? Is he in the hospital for a paracentesis? If so, how much fluid has been removed?
It helps to make a list beforehand.
Good luck, Crissie.

There is no need to anyone to put up with rude doctors or other staff. Yes, they are there to help us but we are consumers just the same. We would not put up with this type of rude behavior from anyone else….your waiter/waitress, the hotel clerk, even the cashier at McDonald’s, why should we put up with it from our doctors.
I would seriously look for another doc. We did this with Mark’s radiation oncologist. The first one was just too negative.Keep us posted.

Call tomorrow and see what happened. If there is still no visit tomorrow, ask if they can recommend an onc that cares about his patients.
I started to get very abrupt with Dr. K when I had had enough. I told her I wanted answers. I was no longer waiting for her to decide to tell me! Then I fired her to her face after I met Dr. Denlinger. Told her she needs to pay more attention to some of her patients.
I hope your dad is feeling better. There are other options out there. Hopefully one works better.April 9, 2014 at 11:33 pm #9788crissieSpectatorOk my dad is in the hospital with recurrent ascites. I talked to his nurse practitioner at Mayo in Rochester. She said she was going to visit him today. She didn’t visit! I am having serious reservations about how good Mayo is at this stuff. She didn’t even call him and she has been on his case from the start. He never sees his oncologist only this nurse practitioner that works for the oncologist.
I tried to call her. Being it is 6pm she is gone for the day and the phone just rings!
The Gem/Cis that he was on is no longer working and they are going to switch him to 5 FU.
Please help with some suggestions.
