Thanks Marion and Positivity for your input.
Yes my sister has had a liver biopsy. We will receive today’s scan results tomorrow and then learn of the chemo regime.
And yes thank you for the tip, I believe my sister and her husband have found the UK site, AMMF. She has also been reading Kris Carr’s book and taking advice re diet, being very strict with diet which I suppose gives her some control.
I will keep you posted
xMarch 7, 2017 at 7:17 pm #94324marionsModeratorCinds….welcome to our special site. I am sorry to hear of the diagnosis. I have learned that metastasis prevent surgical resection however; the majority of patients are diagnosed at late stage. We have seen some great responses to current treatment options, don’t give up on hope. I suppose your sister’s first line of treatment consists of gemcitabine and cisplatin. Is there a next plan of action such as a clinical trial?
Also, are you aware of AMMF, UK? Helen provides important information for our UK patient community.
Please stay in touch and share with us the results of today’s PET scan.Hang in there, little sister, this is not an easy ride, but many others are in a similar situation and are here to talk about it.
Hugs
MarionMarch 7, 2017 at 7:16 pm #94323positivitySpectatorHello,
Thanks for joining the forum. You are in the right place for support and information. Did she have a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis or was it just the CT scan? I understand the shock as most people are when confronted with this diagnosis. Take a deep breath, and take it a day at a time. Get a few opinions and treatment options. Did you suggest molecular testing? Ask questions. I understand that PET scan is beneficial to determine the activity of malignant cells. What is the chemo regimen?Being supportive of your sister is a big help! Help with her lifestyle outside of treatment with good nutrition, how to cope with emotions, add things and places she loves. Give encouragement.
Keep us posted.

March 6, 2017 at 10:09 pm #13105cinds-lil-sisSpectatorMy older sister by 5 years has just been diagnosed (on her 58th birthday). She had felt a little unwell thinking she had flu for just a couple of weeks. Fortunately her GP ran some blood tests which lead to a CT scan. PET scan due tomorrow. Chemo is scheduled to start next week. Surgery hasn’t been mentioned so I suppose it’s not feasible atm. Her consultant has confirmed Stage 4 with peritoneal mets and a liver tumour. Can’t believe it really. The future seems so bleak. Difficult to believe when she seems quite well atm. Of course she and our family are all devastated but she is being hugely brave and positive. I hope to find some information and support through this site. Thanks for reading.
