    Hello,

I had 6 months of Gemzar and my platelet count was always very high. Now I haven’t had chemo in 3 years and my platelet count is still above the normal index. I did see a hemotological oncologist and she said that I was fine.

My guess is that that is my “normal” and it was that way before chemo and after, so I can’t say that chemo caused a rise in it.

Hope your Dad is doing well.

Rain….Adenocarcinomas of the pancreas and lung are associated with tendency to form blood clots (hypercoagulability)

    Hi all,

My dad just finished the 2nd cycle of chemptherpay today.

Strangely his platelets went up again to 467! (had not given papaya extract and this just proves that alot of things are not related). The Oncologist didnt seem concerned and said that chemotherapy can cause this.

I have read some artciles about GEM causing a rebound thrombocytosis (increased platelet count).

Next week is his CT scan – am praying for some good news.

Has anyone had this effect with chemotherapy (escpecially GEM) on this board?

    Thks
    Rain
