Randi….due to a pre-existing heart condition, my youngest son also is covered by our State’s Healthcare Marketplace. (California) However; as far as I understand this coverage may not extend beyond 2014. It may very well be that some (or all of the States) then roll over to the Federal Program.

MarionDecember 9, 2013 at 10:09 pm #76919RandiSpectatorI live in New York State who had their own Health Insurance Marketplace which worked like a charm. I also spoke with at least 3 customer service reps, all were helpful and walked me through the parts of the application that I had questions about. It was quick and painless and I got a huge subsidy for my premium.
I blame states that counted on the federal exchange to fill their needs.
Hope it all works out for you!

December 7, 2013 at 7:47 pm #76916marionsModeratorMyMomMyLife….how frustrating of a situation this has become for you and millions of other Americans. Supposedly the computer system is able to accommodate 50 thousand applicants simultaneously. Sure hope that you are able to retrieve the much awaited cards.
Good luck and please keep us posted.

MarionDecember 7, 2013 at 7:38 pm #76915mymommylifeSpectatorThanks for you reply Lainy, I’m very very disspointed by the system that is set up. I’ve spend almost four hours twice a day calling and speaking to supervisors who have told me that the system crashes or the verification dept is down. I just started my 6th application this morning and was told I’ve to upload the green cards in 48 hours. WOW simply WOW.
Beyond frustrated, PCIP ends DEc 31st, don’t know why we are not getting a one year extension like it has been announced on the news. Thanks for letting me vent. Will also call the GI business dept Monday at MD Anderson and see what they have to say.
December 3, 2013 at 3:21 pm #76914lainySpectatorBeing near your Mother in Huston will bring comfort, I am sure to you both. Guess if the CSR won’t do anything for you then ask who you can speak to above the CSR. How do you not have info for any on going patient. I am sure this stress does not help! Wish I could help but it is one time I am thankful I am over the hill! Please keep us updated on the situation and much good luck.
The weather here in PHX is gorgeous!December 3, 2013 at 3:53 am #76913mymommylifeSpectatorThanks everyone for your input, still waiting on a call back, apparently they need to contact me and the csr won’t transfer me to their dept. Time is ticking…will call them again tomorrow.
Lainy, I moved to Houston in May. Miss PHX but glad to be close to mom.

https://www.pcip.gov/November 1, 2013 at 3:26 pm #76908marionsModeratorI too have taken a look at this. It is best to speak with a life person. Be persistent, you will be able to reach someone. It worked for me.
Please keep us posted.

MarionNovember 1, 2013 at 3:00 pm #76907willowSpectatorSee if there’s a patient advocate or social worker at the hospital your mom is being treated by. They may have some training (or know who does) to help you choose the right plan and navigate the sign up system (which the government knows is a mess). My sister is signing up for a plan under affordable care act to try to reduce her huge premium of her Cobra insurance. She is 51 and no longer employed due to the CC (perm doc sec disability now).
I’m hoping you can find someone to help make sure your mom has absolutely no gap in coverage.
Sincerely,
WillowNovember 1, 2013 at 2:33 pm #76906lainySpectatorHello there. I take it your parents are not retired? This is one time I am glad I am 73! I wish I could help you but perhaps someone will come on who is a little more savvy about all this mess. I understand its just another thing to worry about on your plate. How is Mom doing? We never did get together….let me know if you would like to…any time is good for me! Hang in!
