    Dear Sunshinecaregiver,

From past experience with my Dad this has been due to stent blockage. Dad has then been in for a stent clean out (he has metal stents) and also had an extra stent added. This was probably due to Dads tumor location that extra stents were added though. (extrahepatic)

My Dad is also on a permanent dose of low antibiotics to help keep infections at bay, perhaps you could ask about this. They are Ciproflaxin (sp).

My Dad never had any other symptoms only more yellowness and raised bilirubin in blood test. No fevers etc.

He did have a infection after one of his stent changes though that was soon sorted out with IV antibiotics.

    Good luck and best wishes

    Dear sunshinecaregiver,
When my family member had those symptoms the stents were blocked and he was becoming septic from cholangitis… .so the blood work should reveal if that is the case and it can be treated successfully with antibiotics. He had taken a train trip to see his son and we had noticed some changes in behavior prior to his leaving. They got worse when he arrived in Wisconsin but his son didn’t take him to ER as advised while he was there. Sepsis set in and he was lucky to have made it out of the ICU but unbeknownst to us this had been coming on for 10-14 days. We now know to check for fever, disorientation and other signs of infection. Low doses of Gemzar and Cisplatin was very well tolerated in our case and bought him a year of quality time. I wish you and your mom the best. Take care and you have a great source of information and support from Marions and others on this site.

I would think that the blood test will reveal the most accurate information. Possibly, the stents have build up with sludge (it can do that) and may need to be cleaned out. You should know real soon. Try to relax. I know…that is easier said than done, but there is some comfort in knowing that an answer is not too far off. I am crossing my fingers for a positive outcome.
Best wishes (and a few hugs)

Mom is having an increasing jaundice color and the Dr has ordered blood tests. What is the procedure for treatment? She has permanent stents and has refused other treatment such as chemo or radiation. Help, I need to know what is going on and what the Dr might do. She also is having more and more “sundowners” symptoms. I am really concerned.
