Hello, glad to here John is doing better! Its so challenging to witness this and harder still to go through. My mom had very bad sepsis and today she seems to be reacting well to a second antibiotic. Roller coaster ride indeed.

    Charlene,
so great to hear that John is responding favorably to the antibiotics as we have seen in many other cases of sepsis. Hoping for him to continue to improve. I have had several discussions with numerous physicians in re: to the power of “hope” and all of us agreed that when confronted with a critical situation it is “hope” that will carrry us forward and is the very last thing to be taken from us.
My best to you and John,

Thank you all so much for the love and encouragement. They discharged John yesterday with oral antibiotics for the next 13 days.
He’s weak but improving. When he’s done we have an appt. to maybe insert a new stint inside the old one. If not I don’t know what the plan will be. I’ll keep everyone posted.
We love you all and pray for everyone every day!

We are on the roller coaster ride of our lives. I went back to the hospital today and the dr. said John has turned the corner and the antibiotics are finally working, Thank God!

I don’t know where we go from here but I trust God knows. I want to thank you all for your prayers and know I pray for you all every day

I will keep you all posted since we are one BIG family here.

God bless and keep us all,

I’m thinking you need more support and more information. Is there a hospice organization nearby? Even if it is not his time to go, they can give invaluable support to you while he is in the hospital. “I need to know he’s not going to be afraid or in pain. ” These are the people most able to help with this, and make sure he is comfortable. Hospitals don’t necessarily worry about comfort, you need someone that knows the options and can advocate for his comfort.

My only personal experience with them was when my grandmother passed away; they were wonderful. They worked with the dr for us, eliminating dr visits and a massive amount of stress. They had standing orders for pain, skin and bowel issues; sent aides to help with her care. They helped us be ok with not pursuing ongoing, aggressive, medical treatment.

This is such a sensitive issue. It’s quite likely I am clueless; I don’t wish to upset or offend anyone, but if this is where you are at, you need more support right now.

    Prayers and more prayers,
    Brenda

    Charlene,
Dont give up. I know someone who had septis and survived. John needs to know you believe. I will keep both of you in my thoughts and prayers. You are strong, you are brave and you will do your best to get John and yourself through this. We are all holding you close.

I think John has sepsis. The nurse came in yesterday and took a lot of blood and said they had found bacteria in the bloodstream.

Last night he was having sweats and was cold and clammy. He’s getting confused. Does anyone know when someone has sepsis, will they slip into a coma before they go? I need to know he’s not going to be afraid or in pain.

We are in Kaiser and it’s hard to get straight answers from the Drs. One minute they’re saying he’s doing fine and within hours this happens.

    Pray for us,
    Charlene
