SpectatorHi Shari. It sounds like you are doing well and I wish for it to continue for you.
Goodbye to round #1 and bring it on….#2!November 30, 2010 at 2:59 am #43625kathyb
MemberShari,
Definitely mention the hoarseness and increased sneezing to your doctor or chemo nurse. My friend had an allergic reaction during chemo (scratchy throat and then throat closing). They had to increase the time of chemo by running it really slow.
I was told Zofran helps more before nausea starts. Might be something you want to ask about; but if it is working the way you are taking it, that’s what matters.
I just finished my gem/cis.

ModeratorShari….my husband experienced intermittent nausea on his off days also. I am happy to hear that the nausea meds are working for you and that you are feeling pretty good. May it continue.
Best wishes,

MemberHello all,
So I am on my off week from chemo and have been feeling pretty good. I have had some random nausea over the weekend and have taken some of my oral zofran and it has helped. Is it normal to have nausea even on the off weeks from chemo? I no longer have a ‘normal’ anything anymore and I am just trying to feel my way through all of this. Thanks for the help.

MemberThanks Marion,
I have been diligent on drinking 2 liters of water a day, and I have been getting a liter of normal saline on the 3 days post chemo. I am due for labs and my second round of chemo to start on Dec 7th. Thanks for all the well wishes and good tips and advice. I will take any I can get that might help make chemo easier.

ModeratorHi Shari,
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with your first round of chemo, I know that this will be helpful to so many. And I am glad to hear that you are feeling well after this first round, and I will keep my fingers crossed that this continues for you, and also that the chemo does it’s job here as it should.
My very best wishes to you,
Gavin

ModeratorShari…….Congratulations. You have made it passed round one. I am wishing for things to continue on for the rest of the time. Before you know it, summer is here. I would make sure to mention to the doctor the side effect of hoarseness and increased sneezing. We had made sure for my husband to step up his fluid intake by also drinking at least one quart of water or Gatorade per day. More is better.
Best wishes and good look for round two.

MemberHi Shari
It’s good to hear that you are feeling so well after your first cycle of chemo, and I hope that it stays like this all the way through.
My mum is on the same regime as you and has done very well on it. She has had 4 cycles so far and has had fairly minor side effects. Just some nausea (controlled by drugs), once a very itchy scalp, and once a rash on her arm. She’s had some minor hair thinning but you can’t really see it at all.
She is 78 and still lives at home by herself, is still driving, cooking, cleaning and helping (although less than before) with my children. Last Sunday she cooked lunch for 9 people !Good luck for cycle 2

MemberI am feeling good after the end of my first cycle of chemo. A cycle is day 1 chemo, day 8 chemo, and day 15 off. I haven’t had any nausea so far, thank goodness for the new nausea medications. I do have to go in for IV fluids for the next few days to help keep me hydrated as the cisplatin tends to be hard on the kidneys. I do have a few weird side effects, first one is that my voice gets scratchy/horse by the end of the day and I have been sneezing a lot. I am very glad that I had my port put in before chemo started, it sure is a lifesaver. I am hoping that I don’t have severe hair loss, which they don’t think I will. I am hoping that I can keep on with my chemo without any problems as I really want to be done before summer of 2011. I hope this helps people to prepare for their chemo, because I know I didn’t know what to expect with my first cycle.
Thanks for listening,
Shari -
