Hi Marlene, So sorry to hear about your husband’s condition. I can honestly say all on this site are aware of the ups and downs associated with this disease. I believe in hope and God’s miracles as well. I haven’t quite figured out what God’s plan is for me, but like you I pray for healing as well. If you have any questions or just want to express and share your experiences, we are here for you and your husband. How is he doing right now? Is he recovering okay or without to many complications from the attempted whipple? I sure hope all is well at the moment. I head off to a CT-Scan in the morning and then follow-up appointments the next two weeks to determine my next course of action. Don’t hesitate to jump in. Many caring hearts are here to help the best way we can.
God Bless You Both,
JeffOctober 19, 2008 at 1:32 pm #23600lainySpectatorHello Marlene and welcome to the best club in the world that no one really wants to join! While a Whipple is part of the bile duct (cholangio carcinoma) family it is more rare than having the CC start in the liver. My husband Teddy who will soon be 76 had a double Whipple (1st one was aborted) exactly 3 years ago. His was contained in the bile duct valve. We were visiting our kids in Milwaukee and our 2 week vacation turned in to 3 months! He did absolutely wonderful until this last April when the CC returned to where his duodenum used to be. I found this site when it all began (the site was new then) and I don’t know where I would be without my wonderful family on this site! T just finished 5 weeks of radiation and will have a PET Scan Oct 17th on his 76th birthday and if all is clean except for the present mass then he will proceed we hope, with cyber knife. Read all you can and read the past posts on here and you will learn more than you want to know but you will also be very informed.
I have learned we have to be our own advocates and be very strong and soon that fighting spirit will take away some of the pain. Feel free to e mail me if you wish, I know this is a real tough road. What state do you live in?October 19, 2008 at 12:36 pm #23599marleneSpectatorMy husband was diagnosed in August. In September they attempted the whipple procedure but was unsuccessful because they found another tumor on the pancreas and it wasn’t contained. He starts radiation and chemo a week from Monday. He’s devestated, of course so is our family. We have 2 grown children and 2 grandchildren who we’re very close to and we all can’t imagine life without him. His doctor hasn’t really told us a time frame but did say that he has one patient that is cancer free after having the same treatment that my husband is going to have. We are people of faith and believe that God has a plan, we just would like the plan to be healing. Thanks for letting me share. I have found this site to be very helpful.
October 19, 2008 at 3:12 am #23598lissaspearsSpectatorAGain thank you all for your words of wisdom, scriptures and prayers. My husband will go on the 27th to meet the team of docs doing the surgery and recontruction..then they will schedule the surgery and after back to our home town for another team of docs for treatment of both radiation and chemo..i find humor in everything…so I told my husband..we were in a race to see who out lives the other…. one thing about it ..it will keep the fighting spirit in both of us…for we have too much to live for….God is so good.
thanks to all again…lissaOctober 17, 2008 at 8:12 pm #23597lisaSpectatorLissa,
I will add your husband to my prayers. I’m so sorry that you both have to confront this monster cancer. Thank God you have each other and your wonderful family! Everyday I pray for all of us who post on this board.2Co 4:16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
2Co 4:17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,
2Co 4:18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.October 17, 2008 at 11:17 am #23596judybMemberIt seems unfair and at some stage you’re probably angry but don’t give up- either of you. Going through the tough times often makes you a better person. Know there are plenty of us out there that know how you feel. Think how grateful you and your family will be when it’s all over. I have 2 kids in their early 20s and I sure as hell don’t want to leave them behind and I’m determined not to. We’re all learning from the experience- unwanted as it is.
October 17, 2008 at 4:41 am #23595lissaspearsSpectatorwow.. thank all of you for all the kind words prayers and scriptures..I had my time alone with my Lord and was reminded again that He is in control.with that said..God wants us to uplift one another and that is exactly what you all have done… so sweet so kind so selfless of you all with you all are fighting too..although i don’t know you all on a personal level i feel i have a whole new set of friend…this makes my heart full and my spirits lifted…thank you all and bless each of you…lissa

How unfair this cancer monster is – this seems like a repeat of something my family went through 3 years ago. My cousin’s husband battled stage 4 colon cancer, and during the fight, she (my cousin) was attacked by stage 3 lymphoma. We spent a lot of time praying, and they both came through, in good shape. I will pray for you and your husband.Joyce C.
October 16, 2008 at 7:43 pm #23593jeffgMemberLissa……………You have my support all the way! A prayer is what you want ,a prayer is what you’ll get! It won’t be an easy task, but I’m sure your husband will accept this life challenge and go for a win.
Bless You Both!
JeffOctober 16, 2008 at 11:46 am #23592cherbourgSpectatorAfter reading your post I stopped and said a prayer for you and your family. Here are a few of my favorite verses that may give you hope and peace:
In the day when I cried, thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.
Psalm 138: 3
“I will never leave you or forsake you.”Hebrews 13:5
“Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”Isaiah 41:10
While this is very hard, you and your husband are giving your children and their families a very tangible gift of learning how the love of God, family and friends can help us face the worst times of our lives.October 16, 2008 at 6:17 am #23591daddysgirl-2MemberHey Lissa…sending long distance hugs for you and your husband. When my dad was diagnosed with CC, my aunt sent me a note with the following statement (I don’t know the original author, but I heard it used once by our priest at mass):
‘the will of God will not lead you where the grace of God cannot protect you’.
It helped me throughout many situations…I’m hoping it brings you some peace and strength, and support, too.

October 16, 2008 at 2:59 am #23590rankMemberWow Lissa, I’m so sorry to hear about the difficult time for you and your family. Just remember that God never gives us more than we can handle. I know that I just wish he wouldn’t have that much confidence in me
I will most certainly pray for you and your family. I’m Catholic and we’re big into lighting cancels at church and I will light one for you this weekend during Mass.

I’m sure this must have been quite a blow on top of what you’re going through. But, it sounds very positive from what you’ve said. One more fight to get through and I know you can do it! Will he be having radiation and chemo after surgery? Take a day, or I should say, even a moment at a time. It sounds like you have a wonderful and close family and that makes such a difference. Be sure to rely and lean on them and everyone here as well.
You are both in my thoughts and prayers.

You and your family are in my prayers. When I am on this board, I feel the all-for-one, one-for-all spirit and I hope you can feel it coming your way.
Like I have said before, life should only throw one curveball at a time. Cancer doesn’t fight fair but now it’s 2 against one and you are stronger than you know, cancer should be scared of you and your husband!
