August 19, 2009 at 1:27 pm #30724lainySpectatorHi Ron and good wishes going out to Lucille on the procedure. I have been called a lot of things but never a tough bird! Thanks for asking. I have been posting even though its not CC. Waiting for my biopsy date. I will call this morning if I don’t hear anything by 11AM. Honestly I truly believe that I am getting through this because of my 4 years on this Board and what I have gone through with Teddy. For some reason all the ups and downs, all the fears and frustrations seem to really make me handle things so much better. I am just resigned to the fact cancer or not this thing must be removed and its like, lets just do it! Good thoughts flying your way!!!
August 19, 2009 at 12:47 pm #30723duke0929Memberhi everyone……it has been a very busy month….the last time i posted we were told that my wife was not a candidate for a second treatment of the s.i.r.t. procedure…..so they put her on XELODA, which she has been handling very well….during the past 2 weeks the doctors have been in contact with us and they want to do a procedure to block the leakage of radiation… which is why she was not a candidate in the first place…..they say it is quite challenging but are optimistic about it working…my wife is very nervuous and understandably a little down but i try to keep her spirits up and tell her it just another bump in the road we have to over come and we will…..so tomorrow we are off to have the procedure and a mapping and if all goes well in 2 weeks a second treatment of s.i.r.t……i will keep you informed, any prayers are welcomed ……..as always you are all in our thoughts and prayers….lucille and ron
has anyone heard how lainy is doing, she is a tough bird, she can be on my side anytime
August 19, 2009 at 12:09 pm #30722darlaSpectatorHi Beth,
I am glad you were assertive & got this done. With this disease you always have to be one step ahead. I will be thinking of you and Art and hoping that things go well on Monday. Do keep us informed and good luck to you both.

August 19, 2009 at 11:45 am #30721bethtSpectatorThanks for the responses. Art has an appointment to get a cathater and a biopsy on Monday. We had to make a few calls but it is now going to get done.
I will keep watch on his low grade fever. Could that keep them from doing the biopsy?
thanks againAugust 19, 2009 at 2:13 am #30720tessMemberHi Beth, I asked Mom about what she gave Dad when he would get those low grade fevers. She was told to only give him Tylenol (as the liver has enough going on that it struggles to process other meds). She wanted me to suggest that you watch for chills, and a rising temp, these were signs that the low grade fever had progressed into something that shoud be looked at right away.
She said that she too had the problem of the docs not moving fast enough, in Dad’s case it was for the biopsy. She eventually had to tell them that if the doctor was too busy, that they needed to make a referral and have his records sent on, as there wasn’t time to waste, as they had already indicated it was a baseball size mass giving him the discomfort.
Best to you,
Tess
August 18, 2009 at 5:47 pm #30719tessMemberHi Beth, I agree with Lainy… because of how rare cc is, I think it’s good to get a second opinion anyway, just to have a better idea of your options. We received nearly a dozen second opinions for my Dad, so that we know exactly what our treatment options were. And there is variation in what different docs feel to be the best course of action- having some background on their experience with cc is a good idea.
They inserted the cath in Dad the day of diagnosis, I think the fact that you’ve had to wait for over a week with no confirmed date on their part & no response, is just wrong.
Per my experience with Dad, you definitely want to keep an eye on the low grade fever. While these did come and go for him, they can also indicate infection when they spike.
Best to you,
TessAugust 18, 2009 at 5:42 pm #30718marionsModeratorBeth….I agree with Lainy. This is your husband’s health and that is of most importance. A phone call is in order. It can be friendly but, it must be of persistence for a follow through regarding your husband’s catheter. One week is more then enough time to set up an appointment at the hospital. It may very well be that the communication has been dropped somewhere along the line. In fact, you might want to make sure that you are expecting an answer to your question at no later then tomorrow.
Good luck,
MarionAugust 18, 2009 at 4:54 pm #30717lainySpectatorA lot of us have been through this doctor business. I would call the office and ask if they have set up the catheter which would relieve the symptoms and make him more comfortable. If nothing has been done I would change doctors.
That is my personal opinion. After you change then you can give his office and him what for. I am sure there are some people on our Board from that area and can maybe give you some suggestions. You want to know if this doctor has dealt with CC and if so how many patients. It is your right to obtain the best. Maybe if you go to our search engine at the top and put in Cincinnati some names will come up. The catheter for Teddy only took a day to schedule. Please keep us posted.August 18, 2009 at 4:29 pm #2590bethtSpectatorMy husband visited the Oncologist last Monday and he was told then that they would be making an appointment for him to get a catheter early this week. The Dr also said that he would get back with us because he was going to look over my husbands case with a panel of other Dr.’s last Wednesday.
The Dr has never gotten back with us and there is no appointment for his catheter to be inserted. Should I be concerned or am I just over anxious? We have called the hospital about this with no response.
My husband is carrying a constant low grade fever now and it has me a bit worried. I read that this seems to be common. He has been taking a fever reducer…is that okay? -
