I am sorry to tell you this but bile duct cancer can return anytime. Teddy went cancer free from August 05 – April 08. That is quite a miracle and why I call him the Miracle Man. Before April, he saw his Oncologist every 3 months and every 6 months had an MRI. Every 3 months he had LAB work. He is with the Desert Oncologists (Dr. Manus) for ONC and for radiation/cyberknife he is with Dr. John Kresl. You want aggressive doctors around you for this monster. I think you would do well to go into past posts on this sight and to read up on Cancer web sites about cholangiocarcinoma to gain knowledge. Like I said we talk a lot as Teddy does not want any surprises and wants to know exactly what is happening. He has 4 kids I have 2 and the emails go out constantly to family and friends. Everyone is aware. I find that as caretaker it also helps me to “let it out”. You have every right and it is totally normal to be fearful. THank you for your nice replies. What are the odds of this cancer returning? Everyday I live in fear as does the rest of the family. Its is like we are just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Isnt that horrible.
Lainey – He had the tumor in his bile duct removed, gall bladder removed, and 30% of his liver. The surgeon was able to leave the tiniest bit of his bile duct to reconnect. The cancer had not spread any further not in his lymph nodes either. It sounds like your husband is doing good from the whipple procedure. god bless!

Thank you for sharing your father’s story. This really is a devastating disease but how wonderful that the surgeons were able to operate and to have given him more time to enjoy life with the family. He must appreciate those grandchildren so much. I hope he continues to do well. Your story will give hope to others who are diagnosed with this disease.

Sounds like he is doing fine and that is good news. Everyone handles these things differently, we do a whole lot of talking as that is how we figure everything out. What is, what has to be. If you liek please feel free to e mail me.Kay,
Praise the Lord! How blessed that the operation was a success even if the month of recoup and month prior to the operation were torture.
KarenI am from Phoenix and my father was diagnosed with CC October of 2007. He had been complaining to his dr. how horrible he was feeling and they kept telling him it was allergies. Finally he turned yellow and was forced to go to the hospital. It took about 4 days for them to tell us it was cholangiocarcinoma. Our surgeon said the only hope was surgery as the tumor was stuck in his bile duct blocking the flow. He said he would not know if it was operable until he opened him up. If they could not preceed they said it was only a matter of a couple months before he would pass. I was 6 months pregnant at the time with twin girls. These would be my parents first grandchildren. The thought of my father not meeting them was devasting. The surgeons gave my father a week to prep for surgery. They wanted him in good shape mentally, ready to fight. The surgery took 8 hours at which our surgeon said he stopped many times questioning if my father would make it. They kept him in ICU for a week. Seeing him after the surgery was devasting. I cry as I sit here and type because this is the first time I have spoken about it. He was in the hospital for a month at which my mom and 2 sisters spent eveyday 7-10 with him. He has been cancer free for a year now. Our family does not talk about it becasue it is too painful.
My love and prayers go out to all suffering from this nasty disease.
