Link between cholangiocarcinoma and ARPKD

Hi all,

I was hoping for some feedback. My eight year old niece has a kidney disease called ARPKD. It is the recessive form (and more serious) of Polycystic Kidney Disease. It is a very rare disease and will likely cause her to have to have a kidney transplant at some point. Currently my brother, sister-in-law and niece are in D.C. for a study at the National Institute of Health. When the doctors found out that my mom had died from cholangiocarcinoma, they were very interested in looking very closely at my brother. They led him to believe that there is a possible link between the two and even suggested that the complications many times skip a generation. Do any of you guys have any family members with any form of PKD? Any info on if/how these two could be linked?
