My dad worked in the automotive industry for 50 years.He was exposed to a lot of chemicals in the paints and other chemicals.We wonder if that is where he might have gotten it. : ( I am very sorry for the loss of your dad. God’s blessings for peace. Kathy
Beverly…according to Cancer.net certain chemicals, Dioxins, nitrosamines, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) may cause bile duct cancer. In particular, people who work in rubber plants and automotive industries may be exposed to these chemicals.

Reducing Your Risk
Even though some people who have no risk factors develop bile duct cancer, there are ways to lower your individual risk of bile duct cancer.
Avoid coming in contact with hazardous chemicals. Even though thorium dioxide (a chemical, previously used in x-ray examinations, associated with a high risk of developing bile duct cancer) has been banned from use, other hazardous chemicals are still available or found in the environment.
Avoid alcohol abuse, which can lead to cirrhosis.
If traveling in parts of the world where liver flukes are common, drink only purified water and foods that have been thoroughly cooked.

I am sorry to hear of your father’s passing. It must be so difficult to get a diagnosis and then have a loved one pass before you can actually wrap your head around it. My heart goes out to you. You have my deepest sympathy on the passing of your father. I don’t have any answers for you either, but sometimes wonder if it is just the luck of the draw. I have not heard anything about a connection with Rockwell companies.
Some people on here are being successfully treated and others pass quickly like your dad. My husband did too. He was never sick and died less than 2 months after his first visit to the ER. He wasn’t diagnosed with the CC until 10 days before he passed. In his case there is talk of liver flukes in Asian countries and he served on an air craft carrier off Vietnam in the late ’60’s. Unfortunately it is almost impossible to prove and the government does not want to take responsibility.
I wish I had some answers for you, but unfortunately I do not. Once again, I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Try to take comfort in the fact that he did not suffer long and is now in a better place. He will always be with you in your heart and memories. Take care.

DarlaDear Beverly…my condolences on the loss of your father. What a difficult Christmas this must have been for you and your family.
Although I do not know of any connection to exposure to chemicals as it relates to CC, I would not be surprised. It truly is a conundrum why some people develop cancer and others exposed to the same environment do not. My personal belief is that there are complicated and mitigating factors that line up to create a perfect storm.
My brother, who passed away 2 weeks ago, was an executive who did not have any exposure to chemicals…unless it was perhaps on a golf course. (I have actually heard talk some time ago about the danger of golf course chemicals, so perhaps there is merit to the connection between chemicals and cancer.) However, not all golfers develop cancer. I personally believe that diet and state of the immune system and perhaps other factors, have large roles, as well.

The past couple of months have been like a whirlwind to me and my family. My father was diagnsed with cholangiocarcinoma on 11/05/12 and passed away on 12/08/12. He had 3 procedures to try and unblock the common bile duct with no success. He then underwent an exploratory type surgery only to find the cancer was in the upper part of the liver, going into the pancreas and about 8-9 inches into the lymph glands. The surgeon said he was able to put a stent into the bile duct, and remove some of the lymph glands but could not remove the tumor since it had progressed into the upper part of the liver. The oncologist said chemo and/or radiation were not an option due to the advance stage of the cancer. She told us he had “weeks” left and said she would tell him that if he asked — he did not. I think he already knew. Dad was not a candidate for a liver transplant either. He did get to come home with Hospice (the day after Thanksgiving) and was comfortable and alert until about 3 days before he passed. My dad was employed at a factory here in Winchester Kentucky – Rockwell Internationa from 1968 to 1992. After reading about some of the causes of cc, I have found a common thread about chemicals used by Rockwell (they have been sued in other states and also at another plant in Russell Kentucky for use of banned chemicals in their plants). Can anyone tell me if they know of any connection to this cancer and Rockwell manufacturing plants? Also, how would I go about finding out if their are any other similar cases and/or lawsuits? I appreciate any assistance/guidance that anyone can offer.
