Low platlets and not on chemo

Tiffany….we have had numerous discussions about low platelets which at times where addressed with filgrastim injections. But, I also don’t recall anything in re: to having the spleen removed due to low platelets. There have been postings in re: to cancer suspected to have migrated to the spleen but, from the way you are explaining it, your situation seems very much different. Hopefully, someone out there will be able to share some knowledge with us. Considering, you are very young some of these more uncommon treatment plans might be suggested by the physicians at the Mayo Clinic. Have you asked how many people have undergone spleen removal and how these patients have faired?

I have never heard of removing or killing off the spleen. I dont have an opinion to offer. But you are right about difficult decisions. I hope someone comes along to offer advice and insight, but I really cant remember anyone who has had this problem.

And as to the decision, you will make the one that is best for you. You cant go back and question your decisions. Everyone makes choices based on what the know and what they feel. Every decision we make in regards to cc is a gamble. It is a sneaky disease and doesnt play fair. So whatever decision you make, it is the right one for you at the time and that is the best we can all do.
