I am sure it is sugar, something like 4 grams or higher. The baking soda thing has been handed down for generations and I know of no commercial sauce that has baking soda in it. Always willing to be corrected. It just gives a great taste and gets that acid out. As some get older they can’t take the acid.

Thanks for the suggestions Scott- I am a gummy bear addict (and potato chips) but not the sour type. It is nice when we see positives come from facing this disease.

Lainy- I’ll have to read the Ragu label and see if they use sugar or baking soda. I have a feeling it’s probably sugar.

Scott….BADA BING, BADA BOOM! BTW, if you like homemade sauce with pasta. You do NOT have to sweeten it with sugar. Old Sicilian secret…..while simmering the sauce add about a tablespoon of Baking Soda and watch the acid from the tomatoes bubble up and out so to speak. It then naturally sweetens the sauce without sugar. Delicious!

Before the news of cancer 2 months ago, and the cc final answer last week. I had a voracious appetite: bbq, grilling, pizza, fast food salty snacks, chocolate, sour gummy candies. lots of rum and beer…( no wonder I got cancer)

Now, its all no salt/sugar/ fat/ booze….and you know what??? I’ve adjusted and owned it, now I feel better than I ever have from eating healthy. My wife and kids are getting healthy too because they cant have salt/sugar/fat/booze either.

Snacks are my thing though….and there are some damn good healthy snacks. Im hoping that you guys might have some to share.
    I like:
-yogurt and fruit parfait, topped with almond slices or granola
-frozen bananas mixed with fresh fruit and low fat milk( its like ice cream)
-I even make home made vinegar and pepper baked chips. great side to your tuna wraps or sandwiches.
