February 26, 2010 at 10:54 pm #35975gavinModeratorHi Jeff,
Great news about Marc being able to start his chemo today! I hope it goes well for Marc. I know that we all felt a lot better when dad started his PDT treatment back in 08 and I hope that you and Marc are feeling a bit better now that the treatment has started. Yes I know what you mean about it feeling a bit strange to be happy about starting treatment. But by starting any type of treatment means that you are fighting back!
I hope you all have a great meal tonight and have a great time. I’m sure that a night out will be good for you all! So eat lots, have a load of laughs and enjoy the night.
My best wishes to you and Marc,
Gavin
February 26, 2010 at 10:49 pm #35974lainySpectatorWell everything is sounding very good! Even you sound better. A Laptop, wow, nice gift. Hope Marc continues to feel good and that you stay on the strong upswing!
February 26, 2010 at 10:42 pm #35973jeffgriederMemberI am happy to report that Marc had his first Chemo treatment today. (That is a weird thing to be happy about, I know). He is fine and they started his anti-nausea meds (Emend) this morning before they started the Chemo.
Like I mentioned before they did the Gem/Cis injections. However, they told him that when he comes back next week that he may only need the Cisplatin Injection by itself. Is this normal?
Tonight he and I are going to take his Mom and my Mom out to dinner while he is still feeling good!

February 26, 2010 at 10:50 am #35972magicSpectatorBoy George was amazing in his heyday and Air Supply is a good Aussie band and I love the Church, little river band and Crowded House from that time
JanetFebruary 25, 2010 at 6:51 pm #35971gavinModeratorHi Jeff,
Sorry to hear that Marc couldn’t start his chemo treatment today. I hope you get an app with the docs at MD ANderson soon and can get the treatment plan in place.
Depeche Mode are one of my favourite bands, them and the Clash. I’ve seen Depeche Mode live a load of times and the are very good live. I love the 80’s music too and being a teenager in the 80’s in the UK was certainly eventful, and a lot of fun too!
Best wishes to you and Marc,
Gavin

I agree, your attitude and acceptance is amazing for someone so young. It will get you through whatever life has in store for you.
Jeff & Marc,
I think being realistic and planning for the worst, but hoping for the best, then enjoying whatever time you are given is the way to go. As Lainy says “Attitude Is Everything!”
February 25, 2010 at 4:49 pm #35969jeffgriederMemberThank you Kris. I am hoping the Chemo does not kick his ass to where he can still enjoy life.
I just sent in the self referral form for MD Anderson.
February 25, 2010 at 4:33 pm #35968lainySpectatorHere, here, Kris. Words of wisdom from such a youngster!!!
February 25, 2010 at 4:06 pm #35967devoncatSpectatorJeff,
It is importatnt to be realistic. However, there is hope. After you spend any time at all on this board, you know this is a difficult cancer and the prognosis isnt so great. But if you keep reading, there are so many nuggets of hope. Kristin at 6 years, Sue at 3 cancer free, Mary’s husband, our Jeff who managed 10 years before he passed, Lainy’s Teddy. There is hope there.I am very realistic about my chances. Yet, you will not meet anyone with more hope. My psychologist believes that half the reason I am doing so well is that Hans and I have accepted as best we can what will likely happen. We have planned for it, discussed it, and now we can let it go and just enjoy life. There is not this burden of what might happen, because we have planned for it. My psychologist believes that has freed me because I am not wasting energy on it.
Get a second and third opinion. Find the doctor that is in the fight with you. If the doctor already sees Marc as dead, she isnt going to be the best coach in the fight.

February 25, 2010 at 3:46 pm #35966lainySpectatorI love, love Air Supply! And the best all time female singer is…..Barbra!
February 25, 2010 at 2:49 pm #35965darlaSpectatorJeff,
Sorry you and Marc had such a disappointing day. Hopeful things will fall into place soon and a treatment plan will be in place.
I’m more Styx, Air Supply, Journey!
I hope things go more smoothly tomorrow.

February 25, 2010 at 2:43 pm #35964jeffgriederMemberDivo is….. OK. But I am more of a Dead or Alive, Culture Club, Depeche Mode kind of guy! Maybe with a little Styx, Air Supply and Journey mixed in.
I am a HUGE 80’s Fan!!!
February 25, 2010 at 2:31 pm #35963lainySpectatorJeff you are both entitled to freak but not for too long! I promise once a game plan is in place and treatment of some kind starts everything will loosen up as the fighting spirit takes over and it really helps. You are doing just fine. When I need a release….I go for a drive, play Mama Mia CD in the car and sing until my throat hurts from singing so loud. Then I come home all smiley faced. If you are a tenor….Il Divo is good!
February 25, 2010 at 2:25 pm #35962jeffgriederMemberI think you are right Janet. Another reason I thought it was strange that they had scheduled the chemo only 15 minutes after a consult. But we are talking about the VA here. The DR almost sounded as if she thought Marc should not even go through chemo. But since she was so matter of fact you think she would have just come out and said it.
And Lainy, they did not start the chemo because like Janet said, it was just a Consult to discuss the Chemo. Marc is ready for the Chemo as his bilirubin levels are down to a 5 like they wanted. They are just concerned about the extra
