Dear Jeanne’marie, I am so very sorry to read about Mark. He fought a valiant fight with grace and dignity and will be remembered in all the hearts of those who loved him.

Those we love must someday pass beyond our present sight…
They leave us and the world we know without their radiant light.
But we know that like a candle their lovely light will shine
To brighten up another place more perfect…more divine.
And in the realm of Heaven where they shine so warm and bright,
Our loved ones live forevermore in God’s eternal light.

On June 3, 2015, Dr. Mark David Parsons passed away peacefully with his family by his side in Bend, Oregon. He fought a three and a half year battle with Cholangiocarcinoma which eventually had metastisized to various parts of his body, including his bones. He was fifty-five years young.

Mark spent his junior high, high school and early college days in Bend. He was a graduate of Northwest Christian University in Eugene, American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley, California and received his PhD from Graduate Theology Union in Berkeley.

Mark served for sixteen years on the faculty and staff of the Disciples Seminary Foundation (DSF) and Claremont School of Theology of Claremont, California where he was assistant professor of religion and music and later Dean of DSF. DSF named him Dean Emeritus in 2014 in recognition of his outstanding service and enduring legacy. Mark’s spirit in teaching, and guidance, counsel and mentoring as Dean encouraged and supported many in finding their pathway for life.

Some of Mark’s enthusiasms included music, especially liturgical music, classical music and big band music, the restoration of classic “muscle” cars and the renovation of his beloved home.

Mark is survived by his wife, Jeanne’marie, and three stepsons, Ian, Aidan, and Collin Fitzpatrick. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Eri Parsons, and his parents, David and Avalon Parsons.

I would personally like to thank the Cholangiocarcinoma Organization and Community for all of your support over the years. This website has been so informative in times of crisis and provided comfort in times of need. Words can not express my sincerest gratitude to you all. I am greatly saddened that Mark is no longer with us. But I am rest assured knowing that he is now at peace. My blessings go out to all other community members who are touched by this devastating disease. May you find some comfort in knowing that you have a supportive organization to turn to in your time of need as well.

    Jeanne’marie Parsons
