First off I just wanted to point out that we have not been in the hospital in 5 weeks with my husband that is very much a record right now. He does round 6 of chemo next Friday and we do mid-treatment scan that day before chemo. Dr Picozzi will have results for us that day. We are hoping to see nothing. So fingers crossed for that.
And as Marion pointed out I have not updated on my son lately. For those who don’t remember he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer the same time my husband got his CC diagnosis. Surgery was great and we had a small set back when the left side of his neck abscessed – another surgery to drain 500cc of blood and “yuck” from his neck.
He was not able to do the irradiated iodine treatment until just before he started college. The first scan showed NO DETECTABLE CANCER so he got a smaller dose of radioactive iodine only 125 millirads with the range 100-300. Then the second more in depth scan showed him to be CANCER FREE. Even better words.
He is now off at college working on a Phd in Exercise Science and Nutrition. His voice is almost all the way back and he can eat regular food and drink thin fluids. It is a great feeling.
Thanks for letting me share my good news. You all feel so much like a part of my family now.
