    Amy,

I too am hoping things will continue to improve for your Mom. All this baby news is so uplifting. Waiting to hear more.

I had valet parking when Jim was in the hospital & thought it was great. Fortunately I didn’t encounter any problems. Sorry to hear that you did. As you said, it isn’t that big of a deal, but just one more irritating thing you need to deal with at a time when already have enough on your plate.

Take care and keep us updated on both your Mom & the baby.

    Love & Hugs,
    Darla

Nice to hear that your Mom is feeling a little bit better already and I am hoping for her to be a improving more in the days to come and that the pain medication can be decreased. I think that you and Tess are at the same stage of pregnancy. We will be hearing Baby news real soon. How exciting! The convenience of valet parking seems to have its pitfalls. Just one more thing one could do without. But, at least it can be fixed.
I am thinking of you and wishing for a better day.

Thank you for all of your feedback!

Kris, I am so sorry to hear that you went through the same thing as Mom! That is why I love this group, as unfortunate as it is that so many of you go through pain and discomfort, it is some sort of a relief to be able to compare all of our ordeals, and know what is “common.” How are you feeling on your new chemo?

Mom was a little better today, and I mean little! They have her on lots of different meds. They have her on a “GI cocktail” which really seems to be helping relieve all of her throat troubles. They took an x-ray of the belly and didn’t see any blockage, which is always a relief. They did a chest x-ray today because she is having a little trouble breathing, but I think that goes along with all of the pain.

Now they have her on oxycontin and oxycodone, instead of the patch. They said one of those is for chronic pain and one is for break through pain. Does the pain ever seem to go away? Do you all mind me asking who here is on pain meds? I am just worried about Mom getting too many pain meds. Where is the happy medium? You hear so many stories about people stop taking most of their meds and feel so much better, but is that possible with this sort of disease?

My news: went to the dr today myself. I am now 7 months along. The baby is measuring big, so they are going to do an u/s in 2 weeks. May not make it the whole 9 months. Don’t want to grow a toddler ;).

Maddy and I spent most of the day with Mom at the hospital. The hospital has valet parking, which makes life so easy. Well, I came out today and they had wrecked my car! They didn’t even bother telling me, I just happened to notice that the bumper was bulging and cracked up! Wow, that wasn’t great. They weren’t at all surprised when I as nice as possible told them that we had a problem. I know that in the grand scheme of things this is NOT a big deal, but boy is it a big pain!

Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers.

    Love, Amy

    Amy,
I had the same problem as your mom…thrush in my mouth and dehydration and pain. They feed off each other…it hurts to eat or drink so you dont, they the dehydration settles in and then comes the pain. For me, it took about a week in the hospital to get it under control. Your mom is in the right place and I am sure she will start to get better when the get the fluids pumped into her and the right pain medication.

    Sending hugs.

Hi Amy, I am so sorry to hear your Mom is in so much pain. I use to rub lemon juice on a warm washcloth through my little guys mouth when he had thrush. It may help your Mom, if the prescription meds aren’t of interest.

You are in our prayers Amy.

    Best,
    Tess

Amy….I am sorry to hear about your Mom. Please, give her my love. I have been told that radiation can be extremely taxing on a patient and it appears that your Mom is suffering from both, depletion of energy, and pain. I think that the oncologist made a good decision by having your Mom admitted to the Hospital. With a hefty dose of antibiotics she should recover quickly. I think that there is nothing more important then making sure that pain is controlled. What better reason is there then to administer medication? Of course, we have many discussion regarding the side effects of such medication mainly, constipation and sleepiness. Our JeffG comes to mind: stool softeners for regular bowel movements.
I am sending all my love and best wishes to your Mom.

Hi Amy. You indeed have our prayers. I remember when Teddy had radiation last summer. He did quite well then all of a sudden he felt so tired. Didn’t eat much, no energy. Slept so much. Took about a month then he slowly started feeling better. Hope the hospital can do the job for her!!!

    Hi everyone,

Took Mom to see the oncologist today and she decided to admit her for a couple of days.. thank goodness! Since radiation she has just continued to feel worse and worse. She hasn’t been eating, and pretty much has been sleeping her days away. The drs say that she is dehydrated, has thrush or a yeast infection in her mouth, probably a fungal infection in her throat.

They are also going to find some kind of new pain meds to put her on. They are probably going to put her on the fentanyl patch and have her take the oxycontin also. Sounds like a lot of pain meds to me, but I know that she has been in a lot of pain lately!

The dr said that this was all probably brought on by the radiation. They were pinpointing the tumor on her spine and one of the lymph nodes in her abdomen. Why does the treatment have to be so harmful on the body?!?!?!?!?!

Hopefully this trip doesn’t last very long, and she feels a lot better in the next couple of days. Please pray for her.

    Thanks so much, Amy
