She will be treated by Dr Kuvshinoff at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. They found she had a stricture in her bile duct during an MRCP. They placed a plastic stent and took brushings while they were in there. The brushings came back positive for malignant cells. The CT scan did show a tumor on the outside of the common bile duct. The GI specialist said it did not look like it was effecting the pancreas or the duct that leads to the pancreas. She developed acute pancreatits and an ileus following the MRCP and has been in a lot of pain. She does not look jaundiced anymore and her liver enzymes are slowly returning to normal. Thank you for your kind words and advice.

Dear Hopeful Daughter, welcome to our wonderful family but sorry you had to find us. Where is your Mom going to be treated? I am wondering why it is taking so long to see the Oncologist. I am guessing they ran all the usual tests to come to their conclusion and if so it is hard to believe that they would make you wait that long for a prognosis and game plan. In the meantime you would do well to read up on our posts as much as you can as knowledge is the best way to combat CC. If you go to our Search Engine at the top of the page and type in Distal CC older posts will come up that may be of interest to you. You must also stay hopeful and be very strong. Please let us know more about your Mom’s diagnosis when you find out more from the ONC. You have come to the right place as we all care very much!

My mom was just diagnosed with a distal tumor cholangiocarcinoma on 8/18/11. We do not see the oncologist until 9/6/11. They so far have placed a plastic stent to allow bile to drain properly but we do not have any other info yet. I joined this group to look to hope and useful info. Thanks for being here for us.
