My mom entered into hospice care yesterday. She had a rough weekend, vomiting and was and is quite dehydrated and weak. She didn’t want to back to ER, so we contacted hospice on Monday AM. Hospice has given us the usual drug options, morphine, and adovan. Her nausea is just so bad. They cant seem to get it under control. We’re also using a gel rubbed into the skin, with minimal effect. They have suggested an NG tube to possibly make her more comfortable, but she is refusing it due to the uncomfortableness of the procedure at home. I’m there most of the day with help at night. I feel so helpless. Praying a lot for mercy and relief and mercy of the symptoms. Is this usually the way CC patients come to the end? Mom’s vitals are good, heart rate up at 104. I think mom is afraid of the physical dying process, and still thinks there is hope in improving. She’s really not taking any fluids or food in at all, especially today. She is still talking, but so distraught, thinking hospice would provide a more comfortable solution to her end days. I guess I am really just looking for support, prayer support for God’s hand of mercy for mom. If she is not going to improve, and that is God’s will for her, would you pray with me that God would be merciful in taking her quickly so she would not suffer any more. Having lost my dad, 2 uncles, an aunt and 4 neighbors in the past year, most dealing with hospice, even having the same nurse 4X, within the last year, this seems so unreal.
I’m so thankful for this website, your posts have encouraged me as caregiver and have provided me with good solid information to use with the docs.
God Bless All of You out there
