Dad’s been on FOLFIRINOX since december and has done beautifully in terms of side effects and tumor response in the pancreas. the most notable side effect has been diarrhea. he hasn’t had any of the cold sensitivity/neuropathy-type side effects at all.

dr. javle’s awesome. let us know how you’re doing.

    Hi Lisa,

The first chemo that John was on was Folfox for two cycles and then Avastin was added for ten more cycles. He had significant response so Folfox was discontinued and he only had Avastin every other week until his scans showed progression. He was put back on Folfox with Avastin but near the end of his sixth cycle had severe back pain. At the beginning of his seventh cycle, he started shaking with chills and they had to stop and kept putting heated blankets on him. They attributed this as an adverse reaction to the oxaliplatin. The side effects that John had were: sensitivity to cold, tingling in hands and feet, and fatigue. Since then, I have been told that the Avastin causes a lot of fatigue. Actually, we thought that he did very well with the Folfox until he had to quit. He was on this from April ’09 until the end of August ’10. Hope this helps, PeggyP

We met with my oncologist today, Dr. Estfan, at the Cleveland Clinic and I will start a new chemotherapy next week called FOLFOX. The drug is infused over a six hour period at the clinic and then I will go home hooked up to a pump for two more days of infusion then back to the clinic to have the pump removed. We will do this every two weeks for three cycles and then a CAT scan to see if it is working. Thank you to Dr. Javle at MD Anderson for consulting with Dr. Estfan, they are both wonderful doctors so full of passion for helping people with this disease. If anyone is on FOLFOX I would be interested in how you have tolerated it. Thanks
