Yes Curt….we have heard numerous stories like yours. The physcians most likely will replace or add other medications for the treatment of the liver tumors. So sorry to hear that your Mum had to be admitted to the hospital. Hopefully she can be home real soon.

Mom had another scan yesterday and ended up in the hospital – 2 pulmonary emboli were found on her lung so they are working on dissolving them and checking for any more. As far as the scan – it appears that the chemo treatments have been controlling all of the tumors except the ones on the liver. So they need to rethink their approach and try to come up with a cocktail to attack the liver tumors. Does anyone have any experience with a situation like this? Thanks, Curt

Thanks for letting us knwo how your mum is doing. It is good to hear that chemo worked in shrinking the spots on your mums lymph nodes, and hopefully the new regime of 5-FU and Oxaliplatin will do the same for the spots on the liver. I know that your mum was taking the anti-nausea meds before, are they still working and did they help when your mum got sick earlier this week? If not, have you spoken with the docs about changing the type of and combinations of the nausea meds? There are a wide variety of these types of meds and my dad went through a lot of them, not chemo related though. And how is your mums appetite right now?

Mom had her CT Scan earlier this month and it had good news and bad news. The good news was that the chemo had shrunk the spots on the lymph nodes (that was news to me – i didnt even know there were any on the lymph nodes); but the spots on the liver have slightly increased in size. Therefore, they have begun a new regimen of chemo. The chemo consists of a 5 hour treatment with 5FU and Oxaliplatin and then she goes home with a fanny pack and pump and receives 2 more days of the 5FU. She went through her first treatment of this a week and a half ago. She seemed to handle it pretty well; but did get sick for a couple days earlier this week – the Doctors don’t think it was tied to the chemo treatment though.

I am from Billings and was diagnosed last December. Nice to meet a fellow Montanan, but not with these circumstances!! I had surgery last year and did 6 months of chemo. I recently took a break from chemo and am due to start back up again on the 5th. Please let me know how your mom is doing and I will keep in touch with any new news down here…take care.

Welcome to the site. Sorry that you had to find us all and I’m sorry to hear about your mum, but I’m glad that you have joined us all here as you will get a ton of support from us all. We are a very friendly bunch and will help if we can so please, if you have any questions then ask away and if someone can help then I’m sure that they will.
That is good to hear that your mums blood work has been coming back with good results and I also hope for similar good results from her next CT scan. I will keep my fingers crossed for the best possible outcome. As Lainy has said to you, upset stomachs and nausea are very common here and my dad had a lot of issues with nausea although he did not have chemo. As Lainy has also said to you, there are a wide variety of anti nausea meds out there and my dad went through a wide variety of types and combinations of them over time.
I hope that you will keep coming back here and please let us know how your mum is doing.

bobDear Curt, welcome to our wonderful family. Sounds like the ONC has your Mother doing well. The stomach upsets go along with the territory as does the weight loss. If the meds don’t work for the nausea, tell the ONC and he can always try something else. Things should begin to even out and Mom should start to feel better. Hoping for good scan results to come. Where is Mom being treated, perhaps we have someone in your neck of the woods.
Hello, my 68 year old Mother was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma in late September after going in for gallstones/gall bladder removal. They removed the gall bladder (which was over 5 times normal size and full of stones and tumors) and as much of the bile duct as possible and subsequently inserted a metal stint in the remainder of the bile duct. In addition to the tumor in her bile duct, they found two spots on her liver that were biopsied and determined to be cancerous as well. She began chemotherapy with Gemzar (via double port) in October and is currently in her 3rd round of chemo. They have talked of adding a second med to the Gemzar but have not as of yet. She has went from 200# down to 160# and has battled nausea and upset stomachs off and on. She has been taking appetite stimulants and anti nausea meds, and just recently they have added prilosec to the mix. On a good note hopefully, her blood work has been coming back really good the last month of chemo and she goes in for a CT scan next week to see what is happening. Any ideas, thoughts or discussion on her condition will be appreciated.
