Good news to report. My brother had surgery on Tuesday and is doing great! 7 hours..whew…the surgeon was having difficult finding any cancer (yea!) but kept going until he found some (boo!). What a difference from the other surgeon we saw who was doubtful about doing surgery at all. Anyway, they took right lobe of liver, bile ducts, gall bladder and re-routed small intestine to liver (I think). He’s progressed better than we expected and was up in a chair next day and walking a bit. No nauseau and was hungry right away, although they won’t give him food. They did see some microscopic spots on left lobe, but we’re not going to worry about that. The doctor says he’ll be sending him on to oncology where he’ll likely start some sort of therapy in 5-6 weeks.
So, good news and bad. Were hoping they were all wrong with diagnosis but glad that he was a good surgical candidate and they got most of it out.
Can anyone suggest what he should be watching for immediately after surgery?
thanks!
